We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amanda Dalton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, thanks for joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I started my studio out of the trunk of my car with $50. I waited till I had 60 students before building out my own brick and mortar . Teaching all the classes , booking and studio maintenance I did myself keeping cost down . Volunteering in the neighborhood with the libraries and local schools were a huge asset and building connection and community..

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are a one room dance studio specializing in ages 3 through 18. What makes us different is our small town vibe and connection with our clientele. We know every child’s name that walks through the door, and that’s important to us. I also specialize in small recitals, making it easy for the parent And fun for the child.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Getting connected with the local schools and churches are vital in your neighborhood. Connecting with the parents and providing a safe and creative environment for the children is a must. I focus on a 3 mile radius of my school catering to the kids that live close by volunteering my services and donating to school auctions were huge and getting my logo and presents out in the community.
Have you ever had to pivot?
During Covid brought challenges for our studio. We opted not to offer online dance classes for a price point but instead we offered free online dance classes. I felt like it was the time to get back to my neighborhood as much as I could. Pivoting back from the Covid years has been challenging, connections are different, and people are wanting things a little less personal, personal connection is important when working with children to build confidence and self-esteem is the first point of action and Building a great student
