We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aly Sanders. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Aly below.
Aly, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Quality control is a challenge almost every entrepreneur has had to focus on when growing – any advice, stories or insight around how to best ensure quality is maintained as your business scales?
As Films By Aly began to grow, I became increasingly excited about the amount of clients reaching out for my services. It was so easy to take on more and more projects! Until it wasn’t. I felt like I was drowning. So I had to make a decision. If it was quality that I was after, I had to learn to start saying, “No.” I knew from the very beginning that I wanted to create films that truly make you feel and appreciate the journey of life and all of its beauty. Every film that I create is intentionally hand-crafted. I didn’t want to crank out cookie cutter films. I needed to allow myself the time to tell the stories that I documented. The base of storytelling is intention, so I needed to start intentionally running my business. I raised my prices and I started taking on fewer clients. This was game changing for my business! To keep my work top-of-the-line and give my clients the personalized experience they deserve, I only work with a limited number of couples each year. I want my clients and I to feel less like strangers and more like friends. It is the only way that I can create films that are timeless and tell their true story.
Aly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Aly and I’m the owner of Films By Aly! I care a lot about people and their story. I’m truly passionate about storytelling and preserving moments in time you can’t get back. The real moments. The ones that aren’t manufactured or posed. The ones you can’t just see, but feel.
My love for filming actually dates back to my childhood. My love for home videos is a huge reason why I fell in love with filmmaking in the first place. I love how they tell such an honest story of life. There’s no fluff. Just memories. I became inspired by the nostalgia of it all. I was the friend that always had my camera out. I loved documenting all the memories happening around me because I never wanted to lose them to passing time and a failed mind. The same month I moved away to college, I tragically lost my best friend. In seconds, all those videos I captured became priceless. In time, it only increased my love for filmmaking and documenting the raw beauty of the human experience. I fell in love with the honest journey of life. It has it’s ups and downs, grand gestures and the tiny moments, but I believe that there is beauty in it all. I want to reignite all those feelings every time you press play.
I’m more than just a storyteller! I’m also a wife and a mother. I find just as much happiness, if not more, documenting my own little family memories. I’d even say that this passion of mine only intensified after becoming starting a family. It helps me find the magic in the simple, everyday tasks.
I specialize in documenting weddings and families!
Your wedding day is the one day where all the people you both love most are in the same room together. Being surrounded by so much love is rare. I believe that a wedding is so much more than just an event; it’s a story of two people that’s just beginning to unfold. I always let moments happen honestly and naturally since I believe the most beautiful moments are unposed and unplanned. I don’t want your wedding day to feel like a curated photo shoot. My job is to document the moments as they happen and to let you enjoy your day for what it becomes.
Families deserve to be documented no matter what stage of life! Whether it’s bringing home a new child, a family experience, or the life story of a loved one… those special moments pass by way too quickly. Family videos don’t get enough attention or thought, and I want to change that! Families shouldn’t lose their connection to the past simply because technology has changed or our memories have faded. I’m passionate about preserving those memories for generations to come.
I call New England home, but am available to capture love and tell stories worldwide.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth! Sometimes I feel that people in the industry pour too much time, money, and effort into their social media accounts because they feel like they need to heavily market themselves. Marketing is important, however, I think people underestimate the power of their clients. Give your clients the elevated experience they deserve, and they won’t be able to stop telling people about you!

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I connected with other creatives sooner! This industry can feel isolating at times. All the online courses and groups are great, but real people are even better! It’s so important to build solid relationships with other creatives.
