We recently connected with Allison Price and have shared our conversation below.
Allison, appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
You are never too old to take a risk and pursue your passion. I did this almost 10 years ago when I took a risk and left my job as an elementary school teacher to become a Traditional Naturopathic Doctor. I knew I always wanted to be a teacher. I loved teaching! However, I felt like there was a piece missing in my career. While I was an elementary teacher I was also teaching yoga after school and on the weekends. Health, nutrition, and fitness have always been my “hobby”. I was always reading books or listening to podcasts about holistic health and the latest health trends. I also became a client at Nutrition & Healing Center as part of my own holistic health journey.
I remember the moment I took this risk and went back to school. I was pregnant with my third. My husband and I were driving home and I was telling him how I didn’t want to go back to teaching, I was getting to the point of dreading Sunday evenings and having to prepare for the work week ahead. I would come home from work exhausted and burned out. His response was “go back to school and become a Naturopathic Doctor.” and so I did!
I chose Traditional Naturopathy because a traditional, classical naturopath specializes in wellness and EDUCATES clients how applying natural lifestyle approaches can act to facilitate the body’s own natural healing and health building potential. As a traditional naturopath I guide and teach natural health approaches that promote well-being. I completed my Traditional Naturopathic Practitioner program in 2019 and my Doctor of Traditional Naturopathy in 2021. I am board certified with the Holistic Council of Holistic Medicine and board certified in Holistic Nutrition through NANP. Upon completion, I continued my education and trained in Nutrition Response Testing. Nutrition Response Testing is a noninvasive system of analyzing the body in order to determine the underlying causes of ill health including food sensitivities, immune challenges, toxicities, and nutritional deficiencies.
Upon completion of my practitioner program, I worked at a local med spa in their wellness division part-time. It was an amazing experience and a great way to get my new career started. In 2020, I was approached by the owner of Nutrition & Healing Center. She was looking for the right person to purchase her business and take over the care of her nutritional clients.
We decided to meet and discuss the logistics. We ironed out all the details and I took over ownership and operations March 1, 2020.
Two weeks later the world shutdown from Covid.
After a moment of panic and a couple of deep breaths, I came up with a plan. I reached out to our active clients, conducted appointments virtually, developed a mailing system to get supplements to those who needed them, and developed a procedure to safely pickup in office. As things slowly opened up we were able to return to normal operations. Three years later I am proud to say our office is thriving.

Allison, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Let’s move on to buying businesses – can you talk to us about your experience with business acquisitions?
I purchased Nutrition & Healing Center in March of 2020. It was the best decision I had ever made. I feel I am exactly where I should be in my career.
I bought the business because I was a current client and had the same vision as Nutrition & Healing.
I was approached by the owner of Nutrition & Healing Center. She was looking for the right person to purchase her business and take over the care of her nutritional clients.
We decided to meet and discuss the logistics. We ironed out all the details and I took over ownership and operations March 1, 2020.
I was very lucky, everything went as planned. We did a transition period for 2 months where we worked together. I learned everything around the office and met current clients. The previous owner contractually, was available for the first year of ownership for any questions or concerns pertaining to the business.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
