Allie, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

After watching baking shows as a child, I knew I wanted to become a baker. I was given my first opportunity to make a wedding cake for my cousin. She gave me her ideas for her wedding cake. I practiced, baked several samples, took many pictures and finally came up with her perfect wedding cake. It was there at the wedding that the name of my business was born. It evolved from Cakes by Allie to Allie Cakes.

Allie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Allie Cakes is a home bakery located in Land O Lakes Florida that specializes in custom cakes, cupcakes and cookies! I cater to individuals who want a special dessert that is going to make their loved ones smile. My love of baking has turned into the desire to create just the right dessert for your occasion! From sprinkles, fondant and buttercream designs, let Allie Cakes bring the sweet life to your special day!

How did you build your audience on social media?

When I first started my social media, I would post pictures of my final products. As I got more comfortable, I began to video frosting cakes and cupcakes as well as icing cookies. These demos brought in more clients. From there. I tried to capture behind the scenes preparations. This engaged my audience more. Now, I try to include photos and videos of my customers with their desserts at their special occasion. Many of my customers will send me photos of their special day as well as positive reviews. Even though I’m not at their special event, I still love being a small part of their special day! For someone just starting out on social media, I would say to post consistently and be sure to show your face! Clients love to see who they are purchasing a product from!

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

I have a large extended family so when I was just starting out, most of my baked goods were created for family. From there, my business expanded to my close friends and then through their word of mouth, Allie Cakes expanded. Through the use of social media, I have been able to market my business to people all over the Tampa Bay Area!
