Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexus Anderson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alexus, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
My entrepreneurial journey began 3 years ago, driven by resourcefulness, willingness, and a strong determination to succeed. While the financial rewards have been valuable, the true fulfillment has come from the intrinsic value I’ve created. Entrepreneurship is fueled by passion and commitment. It’s a means to a greater end – to create a better tomorrow. I’ve long harbored a deep passion for art, design, and poetry, which has only grown stronger over the years. I knew I had to take the risk and turn this passion into action.
The path of an entrepreneur is certainly not easy, but it presents immense opportunities. I understand that the success of my business or idea rests entirely on me. Although, my journey as an writer/author is just getting its footing it’s always been apart of me. My commitment to self-improvement, building, sacrifice, and growth has strengthened my resolve to succeed. Ultimately, the success of my business and brand is in my own hands.

Alexus, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m an author, graphics and apparel designer – the creator and CEO of the GirlzNBooks book club. For years, I hesitated to take the risk and turn these ideas into reality, working behind the scenes to learn and build a plan. But I couldn’t hold it in any longer – I’ve always been driven to share my creativity, grow, and help others do the same. I love what I do, and I’ve finally found my path.
In 2019, I founded Lalalgraphics, a small, Black-owned design company catering to the community by bringing new art styles and ideas. We specialize in custom personalization, business cards, flyers, ID badges, web design, party favors, apparel, and more. In 2021, I launched the GirlzNBooks Club, a book club that provides the love of literature, ability to learn, grow, and make new friends whilst sharing my purpose, creative passion, and a hobby I’ve long enjoyed in secret. With the help of the GNB club assistant, Alexis Brown. I joined the group about 3 years ago, simply looking to meet new people in the area and explore different books. But then the event committee formed, and jumped at the chance to put my event planning expertise to use, helping organize fun meetings and networking events for my friends. I’m really proud of how much the club has grown and evolved. We have so many exciting ideas in the works for the future that I can’t wait to see come to life. I just want people to know that we’re not just a book club – we’re a true sisterhood. We have a blast together, support each other, and do so much more than just read. It’s been an amazing journey so far.

One key thing to remember is that with a clear plan and self-belief, differentiation is crucial. I truly believe that the work of creatives and entrepreneurs has real value, and we shouldn’t have to choose between our passions and a “real job” – there is room for anything you want to do. I wake up every day grateful for the chance to work towards my goals, even if I’m not social media famous. I’m most proud of becoming a first-time author, a dream I’ve worked hard to achieve.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
As an author, graphic/apparel designer, there are several rewarding aspects to being creative: Being able to express ideas, emotions, and stories through your chosen medium allows for a deep form of communication with your audience. Whether it’s through words in a book or visual designs on apparel, you have the ability to convey messages that resonate with others.
Creativity has the power to influence people’s thoughts, feelings, and actions. As an author, you can shape perspectives and provoke thought. As a designer, your creations can inspire trends and cultural movements.
There’s a unique satisfaction in seeing your ideas come to life. Whether it’s completing a novel, designing a logo, or creating a clothing line, the sense of accomplishment and pride in your work is deeply fulfilling.
Art and creativity often bring people together. Whether it’s readers connecting over a shared love for a story or customers identifying with your designs, creativity fosters connections and builds communities. The creative process is a journey of continuous learning and growth. Each project presents new challenges and opportunities to expand your skills and knowledge, keeping your work dynamic and stimulating.
Being able to express yourself freely through your art is liberating. It allows you to explore different ideas, experiment with styles, and push boundaries without the constraints often found in other professions.
Ultimately, the most rewarding aspect varies from person to person, but many artists and creatives find fulfillment in the ability to create something meaningful and impactful, whether on a personal level or within a broader societal context.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My main goal and or mission is to impact and inspire many people and creatives that are driven by a desire to make a positive influence on the world, whether through my books that’s ive published or designs that challenge norms, or art that sparks important conversations. It’s important for creatives to explore their own identities. I do this plan to explains my brand and engage more as far as marketing my business and sharing information to get more individuals to join along. Creatives often seek to build connections with their audience or community. Whether it’s through shared experiences, emotions, or values, they aim to create work that resonates deeply with others and fosters a sense of belonging. Someday I hope to be a New York Times bestseller; I aspire to leave a lasting legacy throughout work. Impacting future generations and contributing to cultural evolutions.
