We were lucky to catch up with Alexandra Zollinger recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alexandra , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? The world needs to hear more realistic, actionable stories about this critical part of the business building journey. Tell us your scaling up story – bring us along so we can understand what it was like making the decisions you had, implementing the strategies/tactics etc.
Building a clientele is a slow process and I was definitely nervous when I started out. I figure the market is so oversaturated with Estheticians there is no way I will build a loyal clientele. I stayed committed to my brand and what makes me different. I worked really hard to create a great experience for my clients, and I continue to do so. You can build clientele but once you do you have to maintain it! Just by being myself and offering a unique experience I was not only able to build up a clientele, but I was also able to attract my target client demographic.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I knew early on the services I wanted to provide and the experience I wanted to create for clients. I put lots of time in energy into bringing my vison to life. I was so scary; I was only 20 when I started my business and I was worried no one would appreciate the details, but my clients do! I have created a safe comfortable space. It feels like a different world at my studio, It’s a breath of fresh air.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Word of mouth has brought me some of my best and most loyal clientele. People talk about great experiences. Take care of every customer that walks through your door. That customer could turn into 5 new customers.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Other Estheticians have been so influential to me and my career. I had a retired esthetician who helped me so much and gave me so much encouragement. I was also so lucky to get a lot of her past clients and that helped my business so much. Social media is also such a great resource. There is so much information out there from people that have a similar story to you. It is amazing how much they are willing to share with you! There is no need to be competitive in this space. We all have our strengths, and we all are bringing something different to the industry.
