Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alex Giddings. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Alex, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
When the idea for Tropix International first came to me, it wasn’t just about starting a real estate company; it was about creating something unique—something that reflected my vision for luxury and professionalism in Guyana’s rapidly growing real estate market. I wanted Tropix to stand for excellence, sophistication, and trust, delivering exceptional service in luxury residential and commercial real estate.
The Spark
The inspiration for Tropix came during a moment of reflection on how I could carve out a niche in the industry. I shared my idea with colleagues at the brokerage I was working for at the time. Initially, it felt good to share my vision, but what followed was one of the most disheartening experiences of my career. Those same colleagues betrayed my trust by using my brand’s name to launch their own business.
A Hard Lesson
While this betrayal was painful, it taught me an important lesson about resilience and the strength of a solid vision. I knew that Tropix International, as my creation, was rooted in authenticity and passion, and I was confident that it would stand the test of time.
Registering the Brand
In 2021, I officially registered Tropix International, taking the first step toward bringing my vision to life. However, I quickly encountered another obstacle—the brokerage I was with didn’t allow me to pursue my brand. Feeling stifled, I realized I couldn’t grow Tropix into what I knew it could become within that environment. I made the tough but necessary decision to leave in search of a better opportunity.
Finding the Right Fit
Leaving wasn’t easy, but it was the best decision I could have made. I joined Keller Williams Guyana, an international franchise that not only supported my ambitions but encouraged me to grow my brand. This was a turning point. With their resources and backing, I could focus on what truly mattered—building Tropix into the powerhouse I envisioned.
The Next Chapter
Once settled with Keller Williams, I threw myself into developing Tropix International. I worked tirelessly on branding, networking, and building a strong team. Every detail mattered—from the way we presented ourselves online to the personalized service we offered our clients. My focus was on creating a name that resonated with luxury and reliability.
Overcoming Challenges
Of course, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Starting fresh in a competitive industry required determination and adaptability. I invested long hours into marketing, learning new strategies, and establishing trust in the market. But with every challenge came a new opportunity to grow stronger and more focused.
On the Verge of Greatness
Today, Tropix International is thriving under the Keller Williams umbrella. I’m proud to say that we’re on the verge of becoming one of the best luxury residential and commercial real estate agencies in Guyana. Despite the obstacles—betrayals, restrictions, and the competitive nature of the industry—I’ve never lost faith in my vision.
I’m confident that Tropix will not only stand but thrive because it’s built on a foundation of authenticity, hard work, and an unshakable commitment to excellence.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
One of my favorite stories from my journey in real estate happened early in my career. I was still building my network, and an opportunity came to secure a high-end client for a luxury property. The stakes were high: not only was this client notoriously selective, but I also knew they were considering other agents with much more established portfolios. It felt like David going up against Goliath, but I decided to lean into what I do best—creativity and persistence.
The Backstory
The client was searching for a luxury waterfront property, but their requirements were so specific that it seemed impossible to meet their expectations. Most agents would simply present a list of pre-existing listings, but I saw an opportunity to do something different.
I didn’t just want to sell them a property—I wanted to sell them a vision. I reached out to a property developer I had met months earlier and pitched the idea of showcasing one of their unfinished luxury developments. While this wasn’t a typical listing, the property had potential to meet the client’s needs once completed. The developer was hesitant, but after hearing my strategy, they agreed.
The Risky Marketing Move
Now came the risky part: I created a custom experience tailored specifically for this client. I hired a professional photographer and videographer to capture the property’s setting and incorporated 3D renderings of what it would look like post-completion. Then, I personalized the pitch with a sleek, branded presentation that showcased how this home could be uniquely theirs.
But I didn’t stop there. Knowing the client loved exclusivity, I arranged a private site visit. I didn’t just walk them through the property; I painted the picture of their future lifestyle—waking up to sunrise views, hosting elegant dinners on the patio, and unwinding in their custom-designed space.
The Odds Stacked Against Me
The odds were daunting. The client was skeptical at first, concerned about buying a property that wasn’t yet finished. Competing agents were also pushing ready-to-move-in luxury homes. I could feel the pressure mounting, but I held my ground, emphasizing the unique opportunity to customize the home to their exact preferences.
The Outcome
After several follow-ups and countless hours refining the proposal, the client chose the unfinished property. They were thrilled at the prospect of making it their own, and I worked closely with the developer to ensure their vision came to life. It was a massive win—not only for my portfolio but also for my confidence as an agent.
What I Felt
I remember the mix of exhilaration and relief when they signed the papers. It was a moment that validated my approach of going the extra mile, taking risks, and tailoring experiences to individual clients.
The Lesson
This experience taught me that in real estate—and in life—success often comes down to creativity and the willingness to take calculated risks. Sometimes, it’s not about what you have at hand but about the vision you can create.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been a combination of personalized service, relationship building, and strategic marketing. Real estate is as much about people as it is about properties, and I’ve found that focusing on trust and value at every touchpoint creates a ripple effect that attracts more clients.
Building Relationships and Referrals
From the very beginning, I’ve prioritized building strong, genuine relationships with my clients. For me, it’s not just about closing a deal—it’s about understanding their needs and delivering beyond expectations. By doing this, I’ve earned their trust, and that trust often translates into referrals. Word-of-mouth has been one of the most powerful drivers of my business. People appreciate when you treat them as more than a transaction, and they become your biggest advocates.
Strategic Social Media Marketing
Another game-changer has been leveraging social media strategically. I manage my real estate company’s social media accounts myself, focusing on creating visually appealing, informative, and engaging content. I use platforms like Instagram and Facebook to showcase properties, share market insights, and connect with potential clients. What sets this apart is not just consistency but also authenticity—I make it a point to inject personality and local relevance into everything I post.
For example, when promoting properties, I highlight features that resonate with the Guyanese market, like spacious yards, stunning views, or proximity to key areas. I also include educational posts, like tips for first-time homebuyers or insights on the market, which positions me as a trusted advisor in the industry.
Networking and Visibility
Participating in industry events and community activities has also been highly effective. Whether it’s speaking at real estate conferences or attending local business mixers, these opportunities allow me to meet potential clients and collaborators while building credibility for my brand.
Tailored Client Experiences
Another strategy that’s worked wonders is providing personalized client experiences. I make it a priority to understand each client’s unique needs, lifestyle, and goals, and I tailor my approach accordingly. Whether it’s curating a property tour, offering flexible consultation hours, or providing step-by-step guidance during complex transactions, these personal touches leave a lasting impression.
Combining These Strategies
What makes these strategies effective is that they work together. Referrals come from happy clients, social media content attracts new leads, and networking builds credibility—all of which feed into each other to create a steady and growing clientele base.
At the heart of it all is the principle of putting people first. Whether I’m selling a luxury home, leasing a commercial space, or coaching an aspiring agent, I aim to provide unmatched value and build lasting relationships.
