Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alanna Doherty. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alanna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The story behind my company name, Urban Plant Theory Designs, reflects the heart of our mission. I wanted a name that would not only stand out but also spark curiosity and conversation – make people ask, “What does it mean?”
The core goal behind my company is to highlight the vital role plants play in our lives and ecosystems. Without plants, we simply wouldn’t exist. Yet, especially in urban areas, we often neglect and harm these essential ecosystems with chemicals and unsustainable practices.
Urban Plant Theory Designs is about countering that trend. We focus on sustainable, eco-friendly landscaping practices that regenerate and improve the overall ecosystem. We believe that even the smallest steps, like caring for your soil, make a difference. Our name embodies this philosophy – encouraging people to rethink their relationship with the urban environment and inspiring them to cultivate a healthier, greener world, “from the ground up.”
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My passion for plants has been a lifelong journey. From catching butterflies and growing sunflowers as a child to delving into herbology, botany, and farming in my academic years, nature has always captivated me. This deep-rooted connection with the outdoors fueled my desire to design and create, leading me to establish my own company.
I felt equipped with the knowledge, skills, and drive to make a tangible difference in my community. As a landscape designer, my work encompasses reimagining spaces, addressing erosion problems, and promoting sustainable practices that benefit our ecosystems. I’m passionate about educating clients on the dangers of invasive plants and synthetic chemicals and advocating for healthier alternatives.
Customer service is at the heart of my business. I believe in treating others with respect and genuine care, and this philosophy has fostered trust and loyalty among my clientele. My dedication to my craft and my commitment to serving others are, in my opinion, the cornerstones of my success.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe that my commitment to customer service and in-depth knowledge of my craft have been crucial to building my reputation. I invest time and energy into connecting with my customers, ensuring we’re always on the same page. Rather than simply taking over, I collaborate with them to understand their needs and educate them on the possibilities. I firmly believe that kindness and understanding are invaluable and foster strong, lasting relationships with my clients.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I believe that maintaining a positive attitude and outlook, even during challenging times, is crucial for long-term success and well-being. Life is full of ups and downs, but by focusing on the positive and persevering through difficulties, we can overcome any obstacle and ultimately emerge stronger.
