We were lucky to catch up with AJ Slambino recently and have shared our conversation below.
AJ , appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I do wish I had started making content sooner especially during the rise of YouTube. I had so many cool experiences during that time but was not documenting or filming any of it. Being a pro wrestling who was traveling the USA plus my full time job had me traveling all over the USA as well. The places I’ve been to, food I ate, people I met along the way it would have made for great content. Missed opportunity but I also was living in the moment. Just feel I got started a bit late making content.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
First off I’m a father. I raised my kids from a young age as a single father with the help of my parents. Taught me how to grow up fast! Second thing is I became a pro wrestler after high school. Always loved to watch it and was asked about getting into it in 1999 and I jumped at the opportunity. I fell in love with it immediately. 2026 and I’m still doing it and involved locally helping out Pro Wrestling Turbo in the Greenville, SC area run and produce shows as well as an in ring competitor. In 2020 I decided to start a TikTok page after a friend, George Robinson, showed me all about it. By 2021 I had gone viral a few times, made friends all over the world, and fell in love with content creation because it was a form of entertainment like wrestling. My content started off as comedy and family stuff but has evolved over the years to now where I made food, travel, music, family, and wrestling content. I have a huge support system behind me which helps with this. My partner Sidney has been huge support My kids Nick, Lex, and Titan are a huge support system for me as well.. I’ve been able to make new friends like Paul Johnston Naylor who lives in the UK and our families have become so close thanks to social media. And even rekindle old friendships as well with people who I lost touch with over the years. When it comes to the actual content I make I do a lot of local food reviews to try and help restaurants bring in business. Travel content as we travel to the UK an throughout the USA frequently. 90s music because that’s my era I grew up in down in South Florida. Family content. And of course pro wrestling events I take part in. I love making content and the entire process around it. I’m continuing to try and grow my AJ Slambino brand through all platforms.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me it’s when I review a restaurant and the post goes viral. Not for me but for them. When I hear from that restaurant and they say hey we had our busiest week ever after the video that makes it all worth it. Helping them grow their business as it helps me grow my own brand.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Consistency builds credibility! Be consistent. Post every day. Multiple times a day. Don’t be shy. Be yourself don’t try and be someone else. Be genuine. Engage with everyone. My followers have become my friends. I love interacting with them and hearing their stories. And most of all have fun!
