We recently connected with Ahku and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ahku thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project for me is the next one. I’m always looking forward to the new while being present in the now. My newest project I’m currently producing under my new company “Ahku Media Group LLC” is called “On Set With Ahku Unscripted “. It’s a talk show were I sit down with artist and we discuss their journey.

Ahku, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been in the art’s since I was a child. My first performance was in the first grade. I was in a performance called the Bunny Hop! I can remember being in stage and feeling the rush stepping on stage. It amazes me how comfortable I was as a child, and how comfortable I am still to this day. I believe it’s a blessing to find what you’re called to be at that age.
In the early 80s with the emergence of HipHop culture I felt I had found my place. I started off as a fan, then became a participant in the culture. At the age of 11 I saw the movie “Krush Grove” and I remember leaving the theater with some friends with a feeling I had never felt before. Motion pictures combined with rap music with elements of break dancing and singing was a pivotal point in my growing up. I wrote my first rap the next day and then joined a group called “The Creators”. After a short lived moment in that group I started to Dj parties at the age of 12 after my cousin gave me his old Dj equipment.
I worked in the music business for over 2 decades. I eventually began to pursue acting and taking classes in college and working with acting coaches. But to be honest my first true love will always be HipHop.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2021 coming off of the hills of the pandemic, the world was changed forever. The entertainment industry had changed for good or bad as well. I remember telling someone that I wanted to start a talk show called “The Pivot” and interview people in the entertainment industry. I played basketball in high school. One of the fundamentals coached was to pivot on a post move in the paint against an opponent. I felt that’s what I wanted to do when the auditioning had slowed down. We’ll after seeing the announcement of a new podcast called “The Pivot ” hosted by three retired NFL football player’s I had to come up with a new tittle.
What I learned in that moment was that I was on to something and to move on an idea the moment the universe gives it to you, or at least trade mark it.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
What drives my creative journey is to inspire. I was that child who’s been blessed since the age of 12 to meet and talk to a lot of my heroes in sports and entertainment. Some say never meet your heroes. I’ve never had a bad experience in meeting mine. So it allowed me to never forget that you never know who’s watching. I have so many nieces and nephews that I hope I’m able to inspire them to do great things in life.
