We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Abrahim Berete a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Abrahim , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I honestly came up with it randomly at first I wanted to name the brand finesse attire but it wasn’t something I could picture myself or picture other people wearing. So then I randomly said out loud Dripset, this was during the era where drip was a new word and commonly used for people who could dress really good which was what people always said to me. The studios part came in because I thought about a recording studio in a recording studio you have all sorts of instruments and in fashion you have all sorts of styles so I decided to throw the studios in at the end
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Yea so I am a fashion designer celebrity stylist and creative director. I recently just went viral for a tour I did for college homecomings after I dropped a CAPULE called PRETTYGIRLSLOVEDRIPSET. The capsule was a hit all over it till this day is still one of my top sellers. So with the college edition we just put pretty girls go to & added different school names. We went to GSU,RUTGERS,CLARK,MORGAN STATE & more. The tour was a huge success and I gained a whole new fan base
How’d you meet your business partner?
My new co founder Jabari Higgs was someone I grew up with we became close during high school. Just passing each other in high school and just clicked instantly.Through the years we always supported each other he’s a track star and I’m the designer it went hand and hand an athletic friend who can get styled by his stylist friend.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I use to think it wasn’t cool to not sell out like anytime a item wasn’t a hit it would make me upset and I had to learn it’s ok not everything will do perfect but that’s the best part about life it doesn’t have to be perfect.
