Abigail, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today.
When I started, I was 18 and just finishing high school. Knowing what I know now, I’d probably have stuck with my old college and gotten some random degree before using the saved money to go to grad school. I don’t necessarily regret my college experience- actually the opposite- but seeing how high my student loans are is definitely daunting. On top of that, I’d take the time to implement the technical changes I use now… maybe start a brand or a collective. Branch out. Start trends. Who knows!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into graphic design by attending a trade high school, where I had to pick a major of study. I knew I liked art and technology, so graphic design was kinda perfect. In my first week of class, I had this feeling of clarity wash over me, like I’d suddenly uncovered what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. It was pretty magical. 3 years later, I discovered a love of photography on a whim, and stuck with it. I’m a huge stickler for trying new things. I’d encourage everyone to take that leap of faith.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
They seem kind of stupid and not worth anyone’s time. But hey, I don’t know much about them.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth has proven to be the best source of new clients. Be nice to people and enjoy what you do, and the rest will follow.
