Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Monique Rios
Hi Robin Monique, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born to be an artist. Creativity has always been the one thing that moved my soul. I am endlessly captivated by the beauty of nature and the infinite wonders it holds. In my artistic endeavors, I strive to honor and reflect this awe-inspiring world. Each piece I create is an attempt to translate the emotions evoked by my surroundings into tangible forms, guided by the medium that best conveys the essence of the moment. I resist the confines of a singular medium or subject matter, as my artistic voice resonates through the diversity of expression. Through my work, I aspire to capture the essence of the world as I perceive it, inviting viewers to share in the wonder and beauty that surrounds us.
1999 I went to art school, I loved every minute of it. I graduated in 2003 and in September 2003 I opened up my own art gallery called 4Art Inc. I was an artist supporting artist and that meant the world to me. To build a collective of creatives, share our thoughts and creative ideas. It was one of the best 20 years of my life. Now I’m focusing on my own art journey. It’s a wild ride but one I cherish and I still take time to catch up with my artists friends. I have been creating videos of our chats with them in their studios, galleries, etc. and post them on my YouTube channel 4Art Diaries. Our creative connections is the best content and that, to me, is magical.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think there is such a thing as a smooth road. Life is mysterious and has vast, ever winding roads. We all do our best to find a path that best suits us. I think in general artists want to be content in just having the freedom and the space to create.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart is my fearless approach to creation. I embrace mistakes as part of the process, understanding that perfection is an artificial concept. In nature, everything thrives through balance and interconnectedness. My work harnesses this principle, allowing me to express the world around me with complete and unbound freedom. I see and appreciate the world as it is, capturing its essence and allowing it to breath life into my creations. It’s awe-inspiring.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I learned to believe in myself. I spent 20 years running a gallery and I learned so much; like how to survive and keep it going against all odds. I wanted to share my experiences with other artists so that they too could be successful in their endeavors. Once Covid-19 hit we were all sent into a swirling grey sea of “what do we do now”? This time actually showed me that it was time for me to focus on my own work. It was a scary notion, since I found comfort in helping and putting others first, but I found during this time that I was lost and sometimes felt hopeless on how to help myself. 2022-2023 I went through a deep depression and then I had an illness that required surgery. I made it through, all the while still creating. Art saves me everyday and its the best therapy. I’m so much happier now, 2024, that I’ve found my own personal groove. I’ve joined a wonderful group of creatives, Streetz Artz Alliance, I’m so grateful to the organizer and now friend John E. Streetz for all that he does.
I still have good and not so good days, and I’m grateful to have so many good people by my side to keep me focused on all the good life has to offer. Sometimes crisis steers us onto a path of new beginnings. We just have to know when to take the reins. Life is filled with and abundance of uncertainty but also in abundance is love. So let us all, SPREAD THE LOVE.
