Today we’d like to introduce you to Nic Luna
Hi Nic, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began tattooing in 2014 after managing a world renowned tattoo studio for 3 years prior working alongside some heavy hitters in the upper echelon of the tattoo industry. I saw day in and day out the passion these artists had for their craft and the impact they had on the lives of their clients. I wanted nothing more than to contribute to this culture of tattooing and feel I was a part of something so much larger than myself with so much depth, history and potential.
A few years into my career I ventured out onto my own and opened up my studio Sub Rosa Tattoo in Grants Pass, Oregon. The studio and its artists have become a staple in the community over the years and we’re honored to gain the trust and confidence in becoming a part of the rest of our client’s lives through the art of tattooing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This journey, while completely worth it, is certainly not without its trials and tribulations. Tattooing is simply a very difficult skill to master and the tattoo artist is never truly done learning. The process of reaching new heights and elevating one’s career is littered with constant struggle. From pushing through limiting beliefs like imposter syndrome, or learning how to run a business, market yourself and build strong lasting clientele relationships all while having to create designs daily that will last a lifetime is a lot of pressure that never really eases up. It’s easy to burn out and want to give up but that constant pressure is how diamonds are made.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in the genre of realism which includes photo realism, surrealism, and illustrative realism. I’m best known for larger scaled dynamic tattoos focusing on themes rooted in organic and earthly elements catering to the serious body art collector. I’m most proud of my ability to work with my clients to collaborate in the creation of unique and inspired designs that seamlessly complement the natural contours of each unique body. What sets me apart from others is my exceptional attention to detail, effortless movement, and distinctive composition to ensure that each tattoo is visually stunning, leaving both the collector and viewer captivated and craving more. My unwavering dedication to the craft and refusal to settle for anything less than my best shines through in every artistic endeavor.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is the experience I offer my clients and the impact I have on their lives. Knowing that tattoos are more than just art for many clients is the most rewarding aspect of tattooing. From a simple semi colon tattoo which may remind the wearer that their story continues to the full back piece which tells a story of overcoming life’s greatest challenges, I help people feel more comfortable and confident in their bodies, they feel expressed and the trust they’ve put in me to help them share these stories means the world to me.
