Today we’d like to introduce you to E.G. Seven.
Hi E.G., we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my writing journey in middle school. We were asked to write a short story and I soon discovered that I enjoyed writing. The following year we were asked to write poems. I wrote a poem and was approached by the teacher about allowing my poem to be an example for future classes. I knew there was something there. So, I began reading more. I read fiction of course but also read the dictionary. Choosing random letters and learning new words.
In my teen years, I studied movies, anime, and video games. Specifically the plots and character development. I wanted to know what made these stories so good. I was inspired to start the beginning stages of becoming an author. I learned the ins and outs of writing. I got familiar with the rules of the pen.
In the army, I wrote my first book. A novella to be exact. When I finished my service I self-published that story. After that, I published several books ranging from short story anthologies, novels, poetry books, and novellas. All of that led me to my magnum opus.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been smooth. Writing is a science. There is a correct way to do it as far as spelling and grammar, but creating stories isn’t simple. It’s a delicate craft that you can’t learn if I’m being honest. And beyond the art there is advertisement. You have to sell your book to readers before they begin reading it. Words are not enough and for the most part, we all judge a book by its cover. Combating trends is also its own struggle. Writing what you want to write comes at the cost of accessing doors that would otherwise be wide open. But, I’ve found this career path to be smoother as time goes on.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an author and poet, I specialize in writing books and creating poetry. But not just any books or poems. I write the kind of stories that yearn for mass adoration and poetry that touches your soul. I’m mostly known for my poetry and the way I write stories is poetic. I am most proud of the 111,000-word fantasy space opera I finished not too long ago. I am currently working on publishing it traditionally. What sets me apart from other authors and poets is that I have a secret weapon.
Out of the goodness of my heart, I am willing to share this secret with you today. Although I must warn you it is not easily replicable. My secret is, my soul. In every word I write I place a piece of my soul within it. A kind of magic if you will. The kind of passion that can move galaxies. Unapologetically striving to be better than previous versions of myself.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I have read several “How to Write” books and those are a good starting point for those beginning their journey. Those books will set a baseline of understanding for those wishing to pursue the pen. It was usually books by authors of specific genres. I have also found quite a few good podcasts/vlogs for writing such as “Reedsy” and “Jed Herne” on YouTube. To be honest, the best resource is to study what inspires you. Television, movies, books, music. Anything that you enjoy that matches the genre you want to write will help you tremendously.
