Today we’d like to introduce you to Anindita Anaam
Hi Anindita, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Certainly! Here’s the enhanced response:

I started my journey as an artist when I was just 4 years old. My initial foray into the world of dance was through Bharatnatyam, but I eventually switched to Kathak due to the lack of good Bharatnatyam teachers in my hometown of Ghaziabad.
While I was academically bright, my passion for art always shone through everything I did. Dance and music are deeply rooted in my family’s rich musical background, and I was fortunate to be born into an environment where artistic expression was highly valued and encouraged.
As I grew older, I continued to pursue my passion for Kathak, refining my skills and gaining deeper insight into the art form. Each step of my journey has been a blend of dedication, perseverance, and an unwavering love for the arts. I have had the honor of representing my country at many festivals around the world, showcasing our rich cultural heritage.
Today, I am proud to say that my early passion has blossomed into a fulfilling career. I continue to educate and raise awareness among kids and students of all ages in the US and globally, sharing my love for dance and music with the same gusto and spirit that fueled my journey from the start.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, of course not. The road has been far from smooth. When I was a kid, I struggled with body image issues like many other girls my age. School years are particularly challenging for teenagers as they navigate understanding their bodies and the society around them, which is never easy on a child’s mind. The training pedagogies in dance were rigorous, making it difficult to balance studies, school pressure, and the expectations from peers and family to perform well academically and artistically.
At one point, my love for art and the desire to be physically fit led me to take drastic measures, such as crash dieting, which had a detrimental impact on both my physical and mental health.
Fast forward to when I moved to the US, and similar challenges resurfaced. Visa and migration issues were significant hurdles, and reaching out to the diaspora was challenging due to my rural location. However, despite these obstacles, I was determined to make a difference.
When there is a will, there is a way, and I am proud of my successes. Through perseverance and resilience, I have been able to overcome these struggles and continue to thrive in my artistic journey.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In addition to being a seasoned Kathak dancer, I am proud to be the first South Asian to serve as the Communications Director for the City of Appleton. I hold a Bachelor’s degree from Miranda House, New Delhi, and a Master’s degree from Hindu College and the Indian Institute of Mass Communications. In my role, I oversee city communications and was recently honored with the 40 Under 40 Award by Insights Publications in Northeast Wisconsin for my professional and artistic accomplishments.
What are your plans for the future?
Yes, I am excited about opening my own full-fledged dance studio and also aspire to excel in the public service domain.
