Hi Sonya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since my earliest memories, I have been captivated by the beauty of healthy hair and all things related to it. I recognized at a young age that a woman’s hairstyle could give her an extra boost of confidence and soften her gaze. For us women, our crown is a powerful expression that is deeply personal, and at times, a sensitive topic. It’s a beautiful and complex aspect of ourselves that deserves to be celebrated and nurtured. In 1998, I joined cosmetology school with a passion for hair care. I excelled in beauty school and later began working in a clinical setting where I specialize in helping those dealing with hair loss. Throughout my life, I have been deeply intrigued by the art of scalp care and hair restoration. In February 2020, I finally decided to take matters into my own hands and created Recover Restore Gro®️ – a personal gift to women everywhere, to help them maintain, grow, and nurture healthy hair. With one line that caters to all textures, my hope is to empower women to feel confident and beautiful, long after they’ve left the styling seat.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I am a firm believer in the power of determination and hard work. Despite the challenges that come with growing a business in a struggling economy with limited access to working capital, I never let them hold me back. Instead, I focus on pushing forward and opening up new pathways to success. And with perseverance, everything eventually falls into place.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I started my own brand, Recover Restore Gro, with a mission to rewrite the script on what truly clean products should look like. My inspiration came from working with the breast cancer community and witnessing firsthand the impact of toxins on our environment and reproductive systems.
My brand is a beautiful blend of science and nature, using ingredients like aloe vera and black castor oil. Harmful preservatives such as phthalates, sulfates, silicones, and parabens are not part of my product range. Instead, I opt for plant-based ingredients such as sunflower seed oil, avocado oil, and rice bran. As a licensed cosmetologist, I believe it’s time to change the standard and provide safer, cleaner alternatives to consumers. I aim to spread awareness about the importance of using good-for-you products and to help restore and grow hair.
We have a Wig Share Program that goes beyond just our products. This program is not only beneficial for patients but also contributes to reducing waste and promoting sustainability in the wig industry. We firmly believe that everyone deserves to feel beautiful and empowered, and our program is designed to make that a reality for all.
