One of the best things about video games is the ability to restart – you can use your learnings to move faster and avoid obstacles. Less is more. If I were to start photography over today, I would worry less about studio space, having the best equipment, followers on social media, and focus more on the art of photography by following my own creative guidance system. I would most certainly do market research to ensure my prices are competitive without lowballing my business for the sake of landing a client. On the creative side, I wouldn’t be so hesitant to film my solo film projects or create a photography series that highlights simple everyday objects, but making it cinematic, turning the ordinary, extraordinary. I definitely could have ended up where I’m at now faster. I always joke that I take the more complicated route in anything I do, just to see if I can do it. Looking back, I wish I had started sooner. I should have trusted my gut, listened to my intuition, and believed in my capabilities. I let the fear of failure and the unknown hold me back from starting my marketing agency. I had a fantastic job and loved the people and the mission of the company I was working for, so it was a hard decision to leave, but it was not the job that kept me from starting to Keep it Real Social; it was my self-esteem and belief in myself.
