Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerri Lewis
Hi Kerri, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up as one of six children in a household where our parents battled with mental health issues, attention was scarce. This led to feelings of loneliness and being unseen, often resulting in being yelled at and getting into trouble. I internalized these experiences, believing that I was inherently bad and unworthy of love.
To cope with the pain and seek love, I turned to drugs and sex addiction at the young age of 14. This unhealthy pattern led me into an abusive relationship that lasted for five years, resulting in charges brought against my ex-partner for kidnapping, assault, battery, and rape. This traumatic experience forced me to make significant changes in my life.
Having studied psychology since the age of 14, I embarked on a journey of self-reflection and healing. I sought to understand the emotional unavailability of my parents and explored various concepts and ideas surrounding mental health. Applying the knowledge I had acquired, I worked diligently to overcome my addictions and heal from my past.
Despite not finishing high school, I persevered and worked my way up the corporate ladder. However, my addiction to external validation and success led me down the path of dark path of alcoholism and addiction to work. Unhappy in my marriage and overwhelmed by my emotions, I turned to alcohol as a means of escape. Realizing the destructive nature of this addiction, I made a commitment to prioritize my mental well-being and sought healthier ways to cope.
Motivated by a deep desire to understand the inner workings of my own mind, I delved into the realms of theology, philosophy, neuroscience, and quantum physics. These studies provided valuable insights into my own brain and consciousness.
Tragically, when my sister passed away unexpectedly due to alcoholism, it served as a profound catalyst for change in my life. Her death shook me to the core, forcing me to confront the reality of addiction and the devastating consequences it can have. I realized that I couldn’t continue consuming knowledge without taking action. It was a wake-up call that propelled me to make significant shifts in my life.
Six months after my sister’s passing, I made the courageous decision to walk away from my secure career, material possessions, and my marriage. With my two children by my side, I embarked on a transformative journey of self-discovery. I began unpacking the stories and belief systems that had shaped my decision-making, allowing for personal growth and the emergence of a newfound sense of self-worth.
Despite the challenges I faced, I found myself working in the cannabis industry, justifying it based on its medicinal properties. However, the global pandemic highlighted the importance of physical and energetic health, leaving me morally conflicted. Driven by a deep sense of purpose, I ventured into business for myself, utilizing my extensive knowledge and wisdom to support others on their own paths of self-discovery and empowerment.
Through continuous personal growth and the application of acquired knowledge, I have been able to help others discover themselves and navigate the world from a place of empowerment and self-love, rather than fear and disempowerment. My sister’s untimely death served as a powerful catalyst for change, reminding me of the urgency to not only acquire knowledge but to implement it and make a positive impact in the lives of others.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Healing from addiction and overcoming mental health issues has been the hardest work I’ve ever done. This includes the work I’ve put into opening a business. The reality is, when we’re young, we are bombarded with information from everywhere – parental expectations, schooling, and societal influences. As a result, we often lose sight of our true selves. The work I needed to do to overcome addiction involved examining and unpacking all my external beliefs, behaviors, and conditioning. I had to discover what truly felt right for me, regardless of how others perceived me. This has been the most challenging aspect – not caring about other people’s opinions and seeking external validation. We all strive for validation as a means to feel worthy of love, but letting go of that need was a difficult process.
In my business, creating a successful venture meant building meaningful and deep relationships and connections. However, this takes time and effort. The biggest obstacles and challenges I faced as a business owner and coach were continuously connecting with others and trusting that things would unfold as they were meant to. I had to show up, knowing that what I had to offer was not only needed but that I was the only one who could offer it in the unique way that I do. My services support others on their healing journey, and that is a special and valuable contribution.
I want to encourage others that the road to success is not easy. When you believe in something, you are carried by your passion and not held back by the challenges that come your way, such as financial constraints or people doubting you. It is essential to stay the course and stay true to yourself. That is how I built my business successfully, and I believe others can do the same.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Kerri Lewis Coaching?
I often use the phrase “I got you like a fish” when people inquire about the work I do with them. While some may find it cheesy, it holds true to the essence of my approach. I assist individuals in exploring and questioning their beliefs, habits, and behaviors. I provide a safe space for them to discover who they are beyond the expectations placed upon them by society, family, and work.
What sets me apart is that I offer a framework rather than a rigid program. Our brains are constantly influenced by external programming, and my aim is to help individuals strip away those influences and build a personalized program that is supportive, nurturing, and kind to themselves. I offer tools and strategies such as meditation, tapping, breathwork, journaling, physical fitness, nutrition, and the importance of water. My knowledge and skills span a wide range, allowing me to tailor a plan that specifically addresses the needs of each client.
Ultimately, my goal is to empower individuals to live life on their own terms. Society as a whole experiences tremendous suffering and pain because many people are disconnected from their true selves. They operate based on what they’ve been taught in school, what their family expects, and what society dictates. My work helps individuals break free from the need to numb themselves with substances or seek external approval. By getting curious about what truly serves them and makes them feel good about themselves, they can fill the void within themselves and alleviate anxiety and depression.
My greatest contribution lies in the fact that I not only offer this work to others but also practice it myself. I have been on this journey since I was 14, which gives me a unique perspective and expertise. It is not just knowledge acquired through studies, but a lived experience that makes me skilled and passionate about what I do.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck, to me, represents the combination of preparation and opportunity. In reflecting on my own success, I attribute it to my commitment to staying prepared. Each day, I make a conscious effort to learn, grow, and enhance my skills and knowledge in the areas of my business. More importantly, I practice what I preach to my clients. By consistently taking action towards self-improvement, I directly impact my performance in business.
Action is key for me. It holds greater importance than mere words. Discipline and action are pivotal in achieving success in both life and business. Without consistently taking small actions and staying committed and disciplined to the necessary habits and behaviors for growth, we run the risk of becoming stagnant and falling short of our desired results.
Every day, I wake up with gratitude for the opportunities I have and take the necessary actions to foster personal growth. As a human being, I am always seeking to learn, love, and connect with others. In my business, I strive to empower others through my actions and by being a role model, rather than solely relying on words.
