Today we’d like to introduce you to Adairius Curry
Hi Adairius, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Believe it or not, my story begins in elementary school! My parents signed me up for karate class to learn how to defend myself. I ended up staying in the class for years and earned my 1st degree Black belt! Fast forward to 2018…I read an article about a mom out shopping with her children, and how she noticed some men obviously following her. She described the fear of trying to figure out how to get out of the store safely with her children. This article resonated so deeply with me because I was a new mom at the time, and just the thought of facing a situation like that bothered me so badly! I vowed that day to always be aware and prepared in order to protect myself and my daughter. I also vowed that if I could do something to help other people protect themselves against predators and bad situations…from this, invinSHEble Self-Defense was born!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but as the quote says: “What comes easy won’t last long, and what lasts long won’t come easy!” My main struggle has been time. In addition to being an entrepreneur, I am a mom with an active almost 8-year-old, a 9-to-5 employee, a ministry team leader, and a dance teacher among other things! Yes, those are way too many irons in the fire, but they all bring me joy in different ways! However, because of all of these activities, time constraints can definitely be present! I have learned to manage them, but they sometimes become too much and I have to learn how to cut back on some things.

My business, invinSHEble Self-Defense, is a company geared towards providing individuals with the means and information to protect themselves and their families. We unfortunately live in a society where we always have to be aware of our surroundings and ready to protect ourselves at any time. My company provides self-defense tools, such as pepper spray and stun guns, to provide people with the means to protect themselves, while also providing tips and pertinent information for protecting themselves in different situations. I believe the informational portion of my company is what sets me apart from other self-defense companies. I know there are a lot of self-defense companies specializing in cute and trendy keychains, which are still very helpful, but some of these companies lack the informational piece….how to use the tools…how to get away from someone who is attacking you, etc.
Brand wise, I am proud of my message. invinSHEble is a play on the phrase “SHE is invincible”. It is meant to stress women empowerment and pass the message that we are strong and can protect ourselves! I want the readers to know that invinSHEble offers various self-defense tools for women (and men!) with various comfort levels of weaponry. I also provide vital information on how to keep yourself and your family safe in many different situations!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the diversity of the city, the creativity, the artistry and the food! I am an out-of-towner, so the thing I like the least is not being able to see the city as often as I’d like!
