Today we’d like to introduce you to Nia Bailey
Hi Nia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Of course! Here’s a revised version of your post:
My story begins in a small town called Enoree, South Carolina, where my great grandparents, Jurell Byrd, Sr. and Marie Pryor, raised 12 children, including my grandmother, Loraine Byrd Fields-Latham, fondly known as Smiley. At 18, Smiley moved to Philadelphia and had 4 children, one of whom is my mother, Narda Joan Fields. In 1984, my mother gave birth to my best friend, my brother Jarrod, and in 1992, I entered the world.
I have been incredibly blessed to be raised by my loving family, including my mom, brother, and my father, Curry J. Bailey III. Their sacrifices and love have shaped me into the person I am today. I am grateful for the guidance and support they have provided, and I attribute my success to both my family and my faith in Jesus Christ.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh Father in Heaven! Life has been a challenging journey, filled with the pain of losing many beloved family members and friends. My grandmother, Smiley, passed away in 2007 from Multiple Myeloma, followed by my Uncle Herman. Several other family members have passed including Uncle Errol, Aunt Chris, my great-grandparents Jurell Byrd Sr. and Marie Pryor, and my father’s dad, Curry Bailey III. Several cousins and other family members have also departed, as well as my dear friends Jaclynn and Sarah, who gained their wings from their battle with breast cancer.
Their untimely deaths have left a void in my heart. Their absence serves as a driving force for me to make a positive impact in this world, in their honor. Their absence propels me to try to make a difference in this world—for them. They deserve it. The love I received from them, I want to share with the world!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Byrd Cancer Education and Advocacy Foundation is a dedicated organization committed to providing everyone with the necessary resources and information to prevent, treat, and survive cancer. Our mission is to facilitate connections between individuals and existing businesses and communities that are already working towards success in the fight against cancer. As the president of the organization, I am known for my background as a Radiation Therapist and my ability to connect people with the resources they need.
The name “Byrd” was chosen for our foundation as it is our family name, and unfortunately, many of our family members have been affected by cancer. Drawing from our personal experiences, we aim to assist others facing similar challenges. We want our readers to feel empowered and unafraid when learning about clinical trials or genetic testing. Cancer should not be a source of fear; instead, we want individuals to feel informed and equipped with the knowledge they gain. We want our readers to feel EMPOWERED.
It is essential for individuals to advocate for themselves, understand their bodies, know their family cancer and medical history and prioritize self-care. Exercise, balanced nutrition, and self-awareness are crucial components of maintaining good health. You are your first line of defense–trust yourself, know yourself, and speak up for yourself. Your well-being depends on it. At Byrd Cancer Education and Advocacy Foundation, we are here to support you on your journey.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most profound lesson I have learned is that God is always in control and He has a plan for each of us. Sometimes I feel like God is gently reminding me to “calm down” or questioning my stubbornness. However, I am learning to be STILL and let God take the lead, and let Jesus take the wheel. I am transitioning into a phase of softness, total obedience, and allowing Jesus to guide me— COMPLETELY. Life is a journey, and with Jesus by my side, I have faith that everything will work out just fine.
