Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Cahill
Hi Matthew, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Where do you draw the line? Formation of the business? Move from Michigan to California? Graduate School? Traveling Abroad? Graduate School the first time? Traveling nationally? Graduating from college? Nearly not making it through high school?
Some narratives simply require more time to unpack. There list of questions above plant seeds that will likely leave you wanting more. That is how I got to be where I am today. Consistently leaving people wanting more.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With the type of work I do, it is consistently bridging this “divide” of personal and professional and to make a positive impact in the areas of unconscious bias and inclusive leadership. While I have faced challenges in promoting these important conversations, some struggles along the way include:
1. Overcoming resistance: Convincing organizations of the importance of addressing unconscious bias and fostering inclusive work environments can be a challenge. Some companies may be resistant to change or may not fully understand the benefits of diversity and inclusion initiatives.
2. Changing mindsets: Shifting individual mindsets and organizational cultures to embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion can be a gradual process. Encouraging people to acknowledge and address their biases and promoting inclusive behaviors requires ongoing education and commitment.
3. Navigating discomfort: Discussions around bias, diversity, and inclusion can sometimes be uncomfortable for individuals and organizations. It is essential to create a safe and open environment where people feel empowered to engage in these conversations constructively.
4. Measuring impact: Demonstrating the tangible impact of unconscious bias training and inclusive leadership development programs can be challenging. It is important to track and measure progress to show the value and effectiveness of these initiatives.
Despite these challenges, we are dedicated to helping organizations navigate through these obstacles and create more inclusive and equitable workplaces. Our team at Percipio Company is committed to fighting the good fight and empower as many people along the way until there is no fight to be had.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Percipio Company consulting engagements are built on the belief that “If you have a brain, you have bias®,” as this is the trademarked belief that I built the Percipio Company on. Emphasizing the identification and mitigation of biases that impact a company’s performance. With a focus on moving organizations from bias to belonging® and coaching leaders to reduce mental mistakes, strengthen relationships, and increase productivity, I’ve worked with prominent clients like LinkedIn and Salesforce, as well as numerous small to midsize companies.
The approach I’ve found most effective is to raise awareness, provide education, trusted counsel, and implement action plans so that organizations can create more equitable and welcoming environments for all employees. I tailor engagements to include expertise in unconscious bias, inclusive leadership development, and cultural competence to offer a range of services tailored to the needs of each client. By challenging assumptions, examining biases, and embracing diverse perspectives, I create lasting change and empower organizations to thrive in a diverse world.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Any and every entrepreneur can appreciate the high-risk/high-reward nature of small business ownership and operation. You really have to view risk as an opportunity for growth, innovation, and positive change. To view risk-taking is a vital aspect of progress and success, especially in the world of consulting, coaching and designing tailored workshops.
In the current state of virtual work, understanding how to design interactions for maximum impact is a must. Take calculated risks and deviate from the one-to-many norm.
