Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Parker.
Hi Andrea, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Andrea Parker, a former police detective turned leadership expert who helps high-performing teams and people-first companies reimagine how they work, lead, and live—through one powerful, paradigm-shifting question: What Would Make This More Fun?
Let’s rewind a bit. As a kid, fun wasn’t something I had to think about—it was an instinct. For me, I was naturally happy, curious, creative, and playful. One of my superpowers was taking an experience and asking, “What would make this more fun?”
As I got older though, I started noticing that not everyone seemed as happy or playful. People seemed serious—especially adults. And I started to question myself. Was I too much? Did I need to tone it down to be taken seriously?
So, as a way to feel safer and to fit in, I shifted from living from my heart—sharing my essence, being true to me—to living in my head, being what I thought I needed to be.
And then the question shifted, instead of asking “What would make this more fun?” I started asking, “How do I get ahead? How do I succeed? How do I make them proud?”
Those questions shifted everything.
I became a people pleaser, overachiever and perfectionist. Not just to fit in, but to exceed all expectations. I learned how to play society’s game of success—but I also learned how to check all the boxes, even when they didn’t feel right.
Which then carried over into my career as a police detective.
I was handling complex investigations and calls that officers in other divisions might not experience in a decade. But inside? I was barely holding it together.
I was trapped in a cycle of overworking, terrified that if I slowed down, I would lose everything I had built. So, I did what felt familiar: I worked more, pushed more, sacrificed my well-being, and continued to repeat the same cycle.
Then, I got my wake-up call.
It was May, 2017.
I had just returned home from my run and felt something was off in my body.
As I was driving to the hospital, things escalated quickly. I was having a full-blown anaphylaxis reaction, and I knew this because I had my first reaction earlier that month.
At that moment, the realization hit me like a freight train—I might not make it home.
It was at that moment it became really clear to me that although I had been taking action toward creating the life I desired on the outside, I was still missing the whole point.
What was the point of checking all these boxes, achieving success, and making them proud, if it was literally killing me in the process?
I hadn’t been truly living. I wasn’t fully enjoying. I sure as hell wasn’t having fun.
That was my line in the sand.
In that moment, I decided that something needed to change, that I needed to change, and that the question needed to change.
I made it the hospital and shared with my wife Mel, the revelation I had.
What is the point of all this… if I’m not having fun? If I’m not enjoying my experience?
Because in that moment, I finally understood.
Success at the cost of yourself is not success.
Achievement without joy is just obligation.
And “winning” doesn’t mean anything if you’re miserable doing it.
That’s when I unknowingly shifted my entire approach. Instead of What the Fuck? I started asking where’s the fun? And this is where things started to change.
So, I asked myself a simple question: What would make this more fun?
And for the first time in years, I let my heart answer instead of my head.
Fun, for me, meant:
Prioritizing my joy at work.
Letting go of “shoulds” and playing by my own rules.
Not worrying about fitting in—but showing up as my full self. I was secretly funny, but nobody knew.
Moving my body, making time for what actually energized me.
Not taking myself so damn seriously.
The more I embodied this new paradigm, the more my entire experience changed.
I shifted from trying to fit into someone else’s definition of success and making others proud to focusing on, “What would make this journey more fun for ME?”
I realized that my joy wasn’t a liability—it was my secret weapon.
Not just for me, but for the work itself.
When I stopped trying to fit the mold, I became a better detective.
When I let go of the pressure to perform, I made deeper, more meaningful connections.
When I stopped taking everything so seriously, I actually became more effective.
And here’s the kicker…
When I stopped grinding myself into the ground, I actually performed better. I even got promoted.
I had more ease and balance, and for the first time in a long time, I allowed myself to be fully present at home.
I became the kind of leader people gravitated toward.
After a decade of policing, I followed my fun and realized that what I loved about being a detective was the questions. I loved recognizing patterns, uncovering the truth, and helping others see things in a way they hadn’t before.
I realized that the real work I wanted to do wasn’t solving crimes—it was helping people redefine success and unfold their highest potential.
So, for the next 9 years, I trained with top coaches and mentors in human behaviour, subconscious programming, performance coaching, and leadership development, and been helping business leaders and high-performers to embody this new paradigm and play at their highest potential.
Today, I live my dream life on a lake in Muskoka with my wife Mel and our dog, helping others discover that when you lead with fun, not only do you thrive, but so does everyone around you.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve had many WTF moments in my life, but one that sticks out is from my 10-year career as a police detective.
On the outside, I had it all together. I was confident, I handled high-stakes investigations with ease. But despite achieving great outer success, I felt a disconnect inside. I was wearing a mask, taking myself way too seriously, and sucking the joy out of my experience. Then I realized.
I had stopped asking, “What would make this more fun?”
So I shifted the question and started asking, ‘What would make this more fun—for me?’
And one of the things that popped up was to bring more of my essence out at work. I brought my salt lamp to work, my sage, a cute comfy blanket, made a nice relaxing playlist. And each morning I would come in, have my salt lamp on, listening to my nice music, savouring my coffee.
My desk was surrounded by the drugs and street crime unit. So it was me and then these guys who would be coming off their night shift with all the drugs, weapons and evidence they seized from the night before.
And do you know what happened?
The most jacked, tattooed guys in these units would come to my desk and say how their wife had the same salt lamp, or ask what each crystal represented, or they would wear my blanket because they got cold.
By making my environment more enjoyable for myself, I unintentionally created a space that fostered deeper, more authentic connections.
I became magnetic, not through force, but simply by being in the energy of my joy.
As you know, we’re big fans of FunX. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
As a Keynote Speaker, Founder of Andrea Parker Coaching, Co-Founder of FunX and Co-Host of WTF: Where’s the Fun Podcast, I help high-performing teams and people-first companies reimagine how they work, lead, and live through one powerful, paradigm-shifting question: What Would Make This More Fun?
With a background as a former police detective, I bring a unique perspective—combining high-stakes experience with a passion for leadership transformation. Known for my magnetic stage presence, razor-sharp storytelling, and real-life lessons from the front lines of law enforcement, I don’t just deliver a keynote—I create an experience.
My signature talk, WTF: Where’s the Fun?!, is an interactive, high-impact experience that helps audiences:
Reset their perspective in real-time
Rewire their relationship with work, pressure, and performance
Reconnect with what energizes them, so they lead with joy, not just drive
Grounded in human behavior, subconscious programming, and performance coaching, my work helps leaders and organizations embrace a culture shift that feels good and gets results. Over the past decade, I’ve trained with top coaches and mentors in leadership, human behavior, and subconscious programming—helping leaders embrace a new paradigm of success that balances play with purpose.
This isn’t fluff—it’s neuroscience meets emotional intelligence. It’s culture change that feels good and gets results. It’s a practical, instantly usable tool that signals safety to the brain and unlocks innovation, resilience, and meaningful impact.
The WTF isn’t just a “framework.” It’s a paradigm-shifting question that can be asked in any meeting, on any team, at any moment—and it changes everything.
Companies bring me in when they’re ready to ditch burnout culture, deepen engagement, and create environments where people actually want to show up. Because when leaders follow the fun—performance, connection, and creativity follow too.
How do you think about luck?
I believe that when you prioritize joy and follow the fun, things will happen for you that otherwise wouldn’t. One of our favourite statements to play with is, “Let’s see how fun it can get!” We say this all the time, especially when we travel, because we know that when we play in this energy, that’s when the magic happens.
Like this one time, we were vacationing in the Caribbean, and we were playing in the energy of “Let’s see how fun this trip get?” We kept saying it on the plane, feeling the energy behind it—”Our trip keeps getting better and better.”
When we landed, there was a massive line at customs. The guy next to us, who was on a business trip, turned and said, “I’ve got a pass to bypass this line. Want to join?” Yes, Please! So, we followed him, bypassed the line, and as we walked away, we looked at each other and said, “How does our trip get any better than this?”
We picked up our bags, went to the shuttle desk, and the lady said, “You know what? We’ve arranged a private transfer for you instead.” Yes, please! So now we’re in this beautiful luxury car with the most fun driver, and of course, we look at each other and say, “How does our trip get any better than this?”
Next, we arrived at the resort, and because we were early, the lady at the desk said, “Your room isn’t ready yet, but why don’t you go to the spa on us?” Uhh, YES, PLEASE! So, now we’re at the spa, getting massages, sipping our drinks, so relaxed, and half asleep. And we look at each other and say, “How does our trip get any better than this? It keeps getting better and better!”
And it didn’t stop there.
On our last day, we met this amazing man who was there on business. It turns out he was a luxury resort developer working on a sustainable project with the local community. He invited us to come along for a site visit, and the next thing we knew, we were on a mountain with the most incredible 360-degree views of whales, sea turtles, and the most gorgeous sunset. At this point, we’re like, “I don’t know how it gets any better than this.”
And it was all because we were playing in the energy of “Let’s see how fun it can get!” This is where things will happen for you that otherwise wouldn’t. It’s where you become magnetic because you’re raising your frequency, playing at a higher vibration, and becoming a match for new opportunities and aligned possibilities.
