Advertising, and particularly our specialty of media buying, is a business that can be managed remotely very well. We work with teams of people in different locations to accomplish projects and campaigns locally and beyond. Online meetings and collaboration tools make this possible. Benefits are that we can bring in specialists as needed, without incurring the additional overhead we’d have if they were on staff. As a one-women operation I could only work with one client a day, locally. In 2019 I introduced virtual organizing as an option for my potential clients. I have always been a fan of the option to work remotely because sitting at a desk for 8+ hours a day doesn’t equate to productivity and sometimes life’s necessities need to take place during that time! I have worked at many places that were in-office and if you weren’t at your desk working, your boss thinks you’re not working – it’s crazy! Yes, some jobs need to be done on-location, but creative work can be done anywhere, and sometimes – especially for me – sitting at a desk, with office distractions and migraine-inducing fluorescents buzzing overhead isn’t conducive to a creative atmosphere. Covid-19 made it happen. I have never thought/ imagined that I can plan an event via remote but unfortunately when the pandemic hit us and my customers had special occasions that they still wanted to celebrate with a small circle of people that’s when I decided to do what I love via remote. I would ZOOM in for meetings, and setups, we would order everything and ship directly to the customer. Yes, it was a challenge, no doubt about that. I believe that this pandemic hit everyone hard. My Law Firm had to adjust. So, we went virtual. I was able to send contract and motions to my clients electronically as well as attend Court via zoom.
