As a business owner it’s easy to feel like your work is never done – because no matter how much you do, there is always more that could theoretically be done. Many business owners we’ve spoken with also feel that they have a responsibility to be available to their team and that if they step away they are putting an undue burden on their team. So, we wanted to hear from a broad range of business owners on whether they take vacations and we’ve shared some of their responses below.

We take vacations, I think it is crucial to productivity and staff retention. We, as a company, take the entire month of June off each year from working for clients. We will do a week of company reorganization, 2 weeks of actual vacation time, and then a week for a company retreat. We return refreshed right after the fourth of July. Read more>>

I do take vacations! It is so important to be able to take a step away from running the business from time to time. Sometimes this looks like a work trip where I add a couple days to just relax.. Before being able to take my first vacation though I made sure to find staff that I could rely on and trust to manage the shop and to call if needed. I didn’t hire a manager for the first two years of business, but found how valuable a management structure was for the well-being of my employees and shop. Read more>>

Yes! There are two things I believe in… Self Care and Re-setting. And I feel I do both of those things while on vacation. Let’s face it, we live in a plugged in, overcharge, over stimulated world. Yes! As a hairstylist, vacations are near and dear to our hearts. The biggest key to preventing burn out is taking much needed vacations. Whether it’s a stay-cation or a vacation in another country, it’s vital to our success. I recently took a vacation to Canada with my husband, kid free. It recharged my battery completely. Most people would think as a realtor who sold 105 units last year, I don’t take vacations at all. During 2021, I actually went on 3 vacations. It’s very important to be able to step away from the business for a short period of time -I can never stay away for too long- and I need to be able to recharge.
