Today we’d like to introduce you to John Grenn

Hi John, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?

My fascination with music began at a young age, grinding vinyl records to dust and playing air band with friends. This graduated on to learning guitar briefly then switching over to bass guitar which I became quite proficient at. Garage bands quickly evolved into a focus on writing original songs and soon recording my first demos. Initially on a 4-track cassette recorder then at my bass teacher’s 16-track studio where I began to grow my audio engineering and music production skills. After high school, I enrolled in Canada’s premier audio recording school OIART graduating at the top of the class. Soon after that, I began working for an audio production / rental company (Palmer Audio) where we built and (I) ran a 24-track plus commercial recording studio. Teaming up with then-client now close friend, Brad Ferringo of Yakoo Boyz we generated a number of commercially successful releases that did well on radio with one track in particular “Pipe Dreamz” becoming a favorite NHL hockey anthem. Years later while working as a sound designer at smartphone inventor & maker, BlackBerry, I released a full-length EDM album that garnered some commercial success in Canada with nationwide airplay on the cable TV streaming service Stingray. During that period I also generated a number of remixes including one for Juno award winner, Sam Roberts Band’s song “Shapeshifters”. After taking a break from music for a few years and during the early days of the pandemic I re-focused back on music, leading me to the furious pace I am currently on of generating new music. 2024 has been a breakout year for me with a focus on releasing and promoting my brand, 4 radio single releases in Canada and Australia, and signing a number of individual tracks with multiple indie record labels as well as several self-releases. 2025 is poised to bring growth and development of much more new music and I look forward to increasing my brand awareness and fan base further.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

There have been many struggles and obstacles along the way and it took dealing with lots of “no’s” to get to a place where there are now “yes’s”. I also dealt with the downfall of BlackBerry, which eventually led to me being laid off permanently causing tremendous upheaval in my life at that time. The challenges have only made me more determined to succeed and I strive to turn negatives into positives, keeping a consistently positive attitude helps a lot.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

I am a music producer who also writes songs. My main focus is the generation of modern electronic pop music. I am most proud of my dedication to growth and continuous improvement and maintaining a “never stop learning” attitude. I think what sets me apart from others is my vintage fundamentals-based background, the ability to be prolific, and the continued development of consistently high-quality music.
