Today we’d like to introduce you to Walyaira Irizarry.
Walyaira, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story in music began at a very young age. I studied music all my life and life took me in directions that shaped who I am today. I am a Puerto Rican born and raised in the city of Ponce who immigrated to the United States looking for a better quality of life, leaving music behind. But music never left me. I ended up in Nashville studying Entertainment Business and Audio Engineer/Producer. I have done so many things in my career but the most important of all is my latest project, my new album Nomada.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have asked myself this question a thousand times. I can’t say it’s been easy, even though it seems like it has. I became a wife and mother at a very young age, and even though I have the support of my family, it’s hard to take care of a home and maintain a career like this. I had to work twice as hard and learn as many things as I could to manage myself and be able to create my project. It’s sad to say, but no one will believe in you more than you do yourself. But it wasn’t all bad. I met wonderful people who have made this project so special and made my music sound the way I wanted it to.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an Artist, Writer & Composer, Music Producer, Audio Engineer & Founder of Dime Records. In Puerto Rico I worked singing at night with great musicians in different local bars and restaurants. Then I started singing in Central Florida as a singer for a Cover band. During that period I had an intellectual growth thanks to studying in one of the most influential music cities in the United States, Nashville Tennessee and I met great artists in the process. I feel proud of everything I have achieved because it has been a tough battle being a woman in this industry. I do not consider myself famous but I know that what distinguishes me is that it is natural for me to be helpful and help others in this entertainment career. I am currently promoting my first album Nomada. I worked on this album with my producer Yean Almera alias Nebura La Liebre who is from Venezuela, I also have a collaboration with the producer from San Fernando Valley California, Irvin Martinez alias Funktion Junkie. I also worked with Roy Nelson alias Muddy Boy from Mississippi and in one of them, the producer and guitarist Sebastian Leon from Mexico participated by making the guitar arrangement for me.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Honestly, the best advice I can give artists is to go out and look for opportunities. Keep at it until someone listens to you and believes in you. Learn as many things as you can and collaborate with others who are doing the same thing. College helped me create a network of contacts and do volunteer work in the industry, like when I volunteered at the Grammy nominees celebration in Nashville.
Pricing:
- I am selling my album Nomada, it is a physical collector’s album for $15.00. This is to cover the production costs and my first concert of the album in my hometown.
