Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Erickson
Hi Lauren, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey began with a passion for helping people navigate the book publishing world, which naturally evolved into guiding authors and entrepreneurs in understanding digital marketing to amplify their impact. While working at an Inc. 5000 marketing agency and pursuing my book’s publication, I witnessed firsthand the incredible power of blending effective storytelling and branding with digital marketing. I then realized that my strengths lay in helping service-based business owners elevate their marketing strategies by leveraging highly targeted, organic content.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not, but each challenge has shaped my outlook on entrepreneurship as a whole while strengthening my self-efficacy. Early on, I struggled with viewing my ideas and positioning in my niche from an objective point-of-view in order to create any sort of demand or intrigue from my target audience. With my line of work, it’s very problem-oriented, whether it be time constraints, lack of understanding, or just being overwhelmed by all the marketing possibilities. I’ve since learned that people just want to be understood, valued, and seen. A large part of that requires you to believe in your own abilities, exercise the skills you’ve spent years honing, and assuring others that they’ve come to the right place.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a digital marketing strategist who creates and executes hands-off strategies for service-based businesses to increase their visibility, generate leads, and build authority. My expertise lies in combining effective storytelling with strategic digital marketing to solve common pain points like inconsistent branding and attracting high-value clients. I work with industries such as consulting, coaching, legal services, wellness, and financial services, among others.
I am most proud of my ability to communicate complex and often confusing information into easy-to-understand, digestible language. With anything I discuss, I try to be as transparent and straightforward as possible. With any work I do, I allow plenty of room for experimentation and curiosity to see what works, what doesn’t, and to double down on what does. It’s all about meeting people where they’re at, as a client and consumer!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
As far as networking goes, relationships are everything! I was starting out brand new with very minimal connections, so I frequently attended networking events on Meetup.com. That’s where I met my core community of people that I’m still heavily involved with today! Because being an entrepreneur can be such an isolating experience, finding your community is such a big part of not only building your brand, but also creating referral networks, and taking notes from those who are a few steps ahead of you.
To make the most out of any networking opportunities, virtual or in-person, I’d say to have an idea of your pitch (who you are, what you do, what you’re looking for), your target market, and your niche. Be sure to follow-up with your new connections on LinkedIn as well! That’s a great opportunity to hop on a separate call and find out what kind of overlap you both have with your brands.
