Today we’d like to introduce you to Cornelius Boeder
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Creatively I started working with music in high school back in Germany. Mostly silly electronic things but enough to motivate me to start teaching myself piano composition and go on to study audio engineering. I was doing some music and sound work on short films when I started jumping in as an actor as well. I always accredit this switch to the simplicity and collaborative aspect of it all but I keep finding that my curiosity gets sparked by almost any creative endeavor. Nowadays I’m bouncing around quite a bit -in terms of medium and also quite literally location. I went to Vancouver, then to New York now back to Frankfurt doing acting, writing, music -anything I can get my hands on.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As grateful as I am for having been able to move around, meet many talented people and realize some projects dear to me, it’s been a struggle to have to reestablish myself over and over again.
Now that I’m back in Frankfurt I’m finding that I’ve done all my work elsewhere and have to reorient myself once more and find like-minded people.
The biggest problem has been wanting to do too many things and be in too many places at once. If you’re not careful you end up being nowhere and not doing anything at all.
Regardless I know that I’ll always keep making things because I can’t seem to not.
So let’s see what happens next.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Most of my work has been as an actor but I’ve been writing and composing more and more these days.
Some of my favorite projects I’ve worked on in the past include: ‘This Is Our Youth’ by Kenneth Lonergan and an original play ‘Scissors’. I have a couple of films coming out soon which I’m excited for: ‘The Pick Up’ directed by Karen Wang and ‘it’s called Robert’, directed by Ryan Cairns and Ana Moioli. Right now I’m working on a little solo film project involving performance and music the title of which I shall not name here.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
One name worth mentioning in particular is Luísa Galatti. She gets shit done. Every time I have written something or have an idea for a project all I need to do is take it to her and her response: ‘let’s do it.’ Without her ‘Scissors’ and ‘Fog Around August’ wouldn’t have happened. Thank you.
Also Ryan Cairns, Stella Rea and Chris Baker (I’m glad he’s doing better).
