Today we’d like to introduce you to Azalee Maslow
Hi Azalee, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I planned on becoming an entertainment TV show host, but things turned out much better than I planned. I went to college at UNLV and received my Bachelors and Masters degrees in Journalism and Media Studies. Throughout college I interned at almost every news station in Las Vegas and worked on the school newspaper and news show. When I graduated I applied to countless TV news stations and didn’t get one call back. So I started applying for other jobs. I was hired at a music tech start-up in Las Vegas to manage their social media. I soon built out their customer service department and marketing department. During that time they launched a music label and I helped musicians build their personal brands online. I worked there for almost 5 years and while working there, met some of their investors. One of their investors saw what I was able to do for that company and asked if he could hire me to manage the social media of another company they invested in. That’s when my digital marketing agency was born. While there, I also launched the PrettyAF brand, which started as a podcast and blog for female entrepreneurs. From there I went on to work at a company that does leadership development for corporate clients. They had many speakers that would deliver their trainings and I helped those speakers build their personal brands online. In 2020 I went full time in my own business and continued working with speakers and authors within my digital marketing agency and coaching packages. I’m currently building a new program to help female entrepreneurs build their personal brands online and still run my digital marketing agency and podcast, PrettyAF Powerhouse.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not haha. As I mentioned in the previous question, I ended up in marketing because I couldn’t get hired in journalism. I actually went full time in my business in 2020 because I was laid off due to the pandemic. I finally hit the coveted $10k month in my digital marketing agency and realized it wasn’t what I wanted to do. I was so burnt out and didn’t know what my next move would be. Nothing has gone according to my plans, but Gods plans are always much better than mine.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the Founder and Chief Creative Officer of PrettyAF. PrettyAF is an umbrella company that holds The PrettyAF Agency (my digital marketing agency for personal brands), The PrettyAF Powerhouse Podcast, and personal branding coaching and programs. I specialize in personal branding for female entrepreneurs in the online space. I have a unique background between knowing how to storytell from my journalist background to helping build a start-up from the ground up, to helping position musicians, authors, and speakers online as leaders in their space. When I was going through it, I felt like a lot of the things I did and jobs I had didn’t make sense, but looking back I can see how everything gave me the skills and tools I need to be able to do what I’m doing now.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be when I got my first dog as my 6th birthday gift. I remember being in our front yard with all of the neighborhood kids and my mom pulling up in the driveway. She brought out this tiny ball of fur. I’ve always loved animals and I was instantly so in love with him. He was a pomeranian that I named Meiko (after the raccoon in Pocahontas) and I had him until he was 16 years old.
