Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Lien
Hi Amanda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When I was a college student earning my undergraduate degree in journalism, I knew two things: I wanted to ensure I was a marketable as possible in an incredibly competitive post-grad job market, and that I wanted to use my skills and talents to support my community as they supported me. So I began offering marketing content writing services to local businesses in and around Philadelphia, crafting web copy, social media captions and blog posts for brands in the beauty, lifestyle, sports, and health spaces. At the same time, I also took to Upwork and Fiverr to offer similar services, exposing me to a variety of clients all over the world – ranging from SMBs to Fortune 500 companies.
In 2020, I was part of a round of COVID-19 related layoffs and my freelance work – which had, until then, been a side hustle – became my full-time income source. A couple of clients for whom I’d been working the last few years referred me to friends of theirs, and so my client list began to grow. I started to take this whole business ownership thing seriously; I created an LLC and designed systems to manage new clients while supporting my existing workflows. I also pivoted my work slightly, leaning more toward crafting thought leadership content (contributed articles, blog posts, and LinkedIn content) for leaders and founders in the tech, SaaS, and healthcare spaces.
By the time 2024 rolled around, marking my business’s fifth birthday, I decided to take the next step and incorporate as an S-Corp under a proper business name: Minutiae Content Co. Under that new name, I’ve been honored with features in publications like Living Visibly and Forbes, and my work has earned a Netty Award for Best Newsletter Content and a Netty Award honor for Best LinkedIn Campaign!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a long and winding one, that’s for sure! I don’t come from a family of entrepreneurs and had little to know experience with business founding and operations. I’m incredibly grateful for the communities of entrepreneurs and business owners who were willing to come around me and teach me what I didn’t know, and grateful for my clients’ enduring patience with me as well!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m known for crafting authentic thought leadership content that is aligned with my clients’ personalities, expertise and professional goals. Whether I’m crafting LinkedIn content or working with a client to hone their expertise ahead of a contributed article to Business Insider, Forbes or an industry trade publication, my priority is allowing their unique perspective to shine through while also conveying their deep industry knowledge.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Laying on my stomach on the living room rug voraciously devouring books. Both of my parents were teachers, so there was never a shortage of learning material at home. While I was partial to science fiction and fantasy, my parents made sure I had a wide variety of stories at my fingertips; it’s no wonder I became the wordsmith I am today!
