We recently connected with Carlos Brandt and have shared our conversation below.
Carlos , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I was born in Venezuela and spend many years of my life in Spain. Growing and learning and after my 30’s , I decided to take a big risk and leave behind everything I knew and move from Madrid, across the ocean to the United States looking for a new change of life. I moved to New York City and started to work on my own doing social media marketing for diverse clients. and on the production field, assist on the first RuPaul’s Drag Race Werk The World Tour. I develop a podcast called “Dear Queer People” with the goal of sharing queer stories and inspire people to be better and learn new tools for it. This made me pursue to become a Wellness Life Coach, no only to help others but to learn together, to navigate difficult topics and conversations as queer people to overcome circumstances be the best version we can be.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
After facing different types of addictions, anxiety, and depression, I decided to take myself out of the dark and learn the proper mechanisms to understand myself and the language of emotions, how to process them and figure out the roots of it before continuing to hurt myself and others.
I started my journey into plant medicine and wellness retreats and incorporated therapy 4 years ago into my weekly routine to increase my self-awareness draw on the power of self-healing. During the Pandemic I created and host the podcast “Dear Queer People” looking for connection and to spread the voice of queer folks, trying to inspire and at the same time learn all together ways to be better.
My focus becomes a self-healing place of information and motivations from other professionals, colleagues, and emotional connectors that show me that this process can be also something for you to enjoy while you shed your old skin to be a new version of yourself; honoring the past without letting it rule us, learning how to be present, including creating self-awareness, celebrating sex positivity, types of relationships, exercise as a way of self-care, creating good habits that fits each individual and, normalizing areas of life that sometimes we are afraid to tap into it. I’ve been collaborating in different campaign with OUT Magazine and different brands as well.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Always been an advocate for my LGBTQ community and every time I can, help other inside and outside my platform to spread the voice of those that needs to be heard. Coming from a very catholic religious background, repressing who I am and trying to fit in the “macho” culture, was a breaking point to tap into the proud gay man I am today.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
One hundred percent. Coming from difficult circumstances in life and finding connection with individual dealing with the same, is a way to realized that we are not alone, and we are all in the human experience to keep learning.
