Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Caitie Corella. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Caitie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents encouraged me to explore art and creative outlets. My Mom was a high school art teacher, and my Dad was a high school industrial arts teacher. They taught at the same high school I attended. I have always been interested in the arts and sciences. Hence my business name Dyeology. The study of Dye. My parents fostered my interests and taught me that you have to work really hard for the things you want. They taught me that sometimes you have to pick yourself up and try again and again until you achieve success.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Caitie and I’m the owner/artist at Dyeology Tie Dye. I hand dye a variety of clothing items promoting positive body image and inclusive sizing. I’m a public vendor at farmers markets, community events and festivals. I set up my shop in a 10×20 foot tent and it’s full of rainbows!
How did you build your audience on social media?
The amazing thing about social media is it brings people together from all over the world. I began following other artists and joining groups specifically focused on tie dye. I shared the good bad and the ugly outcomes with my fellow tie dye artists asking for advice or to critique my work. Once I felt confident with my artwork I began building my business pages and promoted my work through photos. I made photo tutorials, reels, live feeds from markets and events. Many of my followers met me in person before finding my pages on social media. I’ve handed out countless business cards and shared my pages in Art communities both online and in person.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me the most rewarding part of being an artist is seeing the joy my tie dye clothing brings to my customers. Some of my customers immediately change in to their purchases. I get customers who come back to events week after week to support my business, to me that says it all. I love listening to their stories weather it’s nostalgia of a past time in their lives or they are just discovering hand dyed tie dye, their excitement about my artwork makes me feel fulfilled.
