We were lucky to catch up with Johnnel Kyri recently and have shared our conversation below.
Johnnel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Working with New Impressionz. The journey started in 2021 and since then its been a fun ride. The band became my family and we’ve continued to push the GoGo culture from being feature on a Billboard for Spotify to playing shows in Miami

Johnnel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I began my photography journey in 2013 while attending Bowie State. I knew I wanted to do this once I liked the reception I was getting from the people I was photographing. Since 2013 I’ve worked with numerous artist such as Wale,Larry June, Rdgldgrn and many more. I feel like event photography is my bread and butter, I love capturing the energy and raw energy. My goal is for you to look at my work and to be able to feel the photo or if you were there, you feel that same exact feeling that you felt.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My biggest goal is to have my photography immortalize in museums. I want to be the one to spark other photographers or folks who want to become photographers to do so.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Do care about politics in this industry. Remember the love you have for this and use that to fuel your art.
