Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Neysa Garcia-Muhammad. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Neysa , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry? Any stories or anecdotes that illustrate why this matters?
Corporate America is always on the hunt for more eyeballs, more ROI, and trackable data. Those elements are important, but often times in business you have to make an investment in joy.
One of the best decisions we made as an agency was to continue doing collaborations with people that inspired us even if we didn’t know where it was going to lead.
It allows us to give back to the community we love, but it was the greatest relationship-building tool we had. We got to meet people, get to know their stories and build trust that an email newsletter could never get in a year.
That decision was all about having more fun and it gave us a real return on investment in joy and revenue.

Neysa , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We’re the co-founders of Ginger and Carrot Productions. We’re a content agency based in Los Angeles. We got our start in Atlanta, where we’re both from.
Our agency was founded in the middle of the pandemic. We wanted to answer this one question:
“Could we make a living as full-time creatives?”.
The answer is yes and since then the vision has grown so much. Our amazing clients provided the opportunity for us to learn, and figure out what we enjoyed, and what was aligned for us.
We provide photography and videography, but what we really do is so much more than that.
1. We’re helping people grow the visibility they need in their businesses.
2. Our team is always working on ways to ideate the right creative direction to accomplish their business goals.
3. Depending on the stage of business they’re in, these assets solidify their brand
What we do involves emotional intelligence, creative acumen, and an understanding of our client’s needs.
What we’re most proud of is that we survived times of uncertainty, times when we didn’t know what we wanted to do next and persevered. It’s so easy to walk away from something because it got hard, but we remind ourselves of what’s important – the fact that we have each other and our amazing support system.
Now, being on the other side of those challenges, we’re stronger and much more clear on who we are and where we’re headed.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
We love this question because there is no clear answer to this. The best way to meet new clients is different from person to person.
If you’re someone with a long career and a huge network, you can send a few emails, get a subscription to a CRM and start a business by tomorrow.
If you don’t know anyone and you’re at the beginning of your working journey, you might have to start by going to events and figuring out what kind of people you’re aligned with.
Clients can come from a conversation on an elevator, or at a party…One of our great friends met a five-figure client in an Uber pool.
Instead of holding on to a strategy, work on the mindset of knowing that there is so much opportunity out there if you’re open to it. Take the time that it takes for you and be confident in where you’re at no matter what stage you’re at.
When you walk into a room knowing that you’re excited about what you do and you’re ready to help, that invites clients into your world.
Just be open to it and as you grow, yes, you’ll have to outsource this work or systematize it. At the end of the day, it’s always about building relationships. So, get good at making new friends and maintaining those relationships.
That’s the truth about finding clients.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson that we had to unlearn is the hesitance to ask for help.
In business, if you want to go far, you can’t go alone. It’s so easy to think that you need to have it all figured out or that you’re the only one that can figure it out.
Putting your ego and pride aside for the growth of the business is the most profitable decision a founder can make.
