We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Joshua Francis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Joshua below.
Joshua, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
When it’s all said I done I want people to know how inspirational this movement was. How many people we helped believe in themselves. How many people we helped is what’s important. The fact that I taught and lead the right way. We built something that will live on whether we make millions or not. I changed some things to the people that knew me. Taught men how to be real men. I watered seeds that will never stop growing.
Joshua, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started recording and producing gospel music at 15, I’m now 30. I just liked creating but once I got older I understood the business was more important than the product so I started studying. Raised by a single mother I understood nothing in this world was easy which is the reason I never gave up. I Graduated from Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences. Went on to work at multiple studios in Atlanta’s midtown area. Then finally decided it was time to work for myself. It’s been a slow rise ever since. I provide recording and mixing services, artist development, house calls for recording sessions and A&R work for bigger corporations. Royal Nation.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
I started doing features for $50. Dropping mixtapes for free. Rapping for free in person just trying to get people to listen. Recording in my grandmas basement in Indiana. People slowly took notice. Then I did rap battles for $200. Went from that to working in some of the premier studios in Atlanta making a couple thousand a week including tips. Then started my own business. Selling out clubs doing music festivals. It was times I wanted to quit. Sometimes i still want to quit. We came so far though. It went from a hobby and nobody believing to my grandma even calls me my stage name.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
I went from recording myself the wrong way, to paying people to record me, to having a studio in my home. It’s all about cutting out the middle man. I paid someone to do my 1st batch of t shirts for my brand watched how he did them. Then bought everything to do them myself. Cutting down on expenses is what making product is about. Then getting a price your customers respect. Not too high, not too low. Always bringing quality.
