We recently connected with Kaylan Wilson and have shared our conversation below.
Kaylan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
God instills talents into everyone! I believe the first step is recognizing your talents. The second step is to put those natural God-given talents to work.
For example, people always ask me how they can develop photography skills and earn a clientele. The truth is you can buy the best equipment and take the most popular photography classes, but you will most likely not enjoy it if it does not come naturally. Always focus on your natural talents and success will come easily!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
If this is your first time meeting me: Hello! My name is Kaylan Wilson and I am a 28-year old professional photographer based in Arkansas. I specialize in natural-light wedding photography and portraits (engagement, family, senior, newborn, and maternity). I have been taking pictures for as long as I can remember! I bought my first DSLR camera in 2013. I received my business license in 2016 and provide photo sessions, mentorships, and presets! I believe my workflow is what sets me apart from most photographers. My favorite photo sessions always start with a creative idea or visual and strengthen from there! I would say that I’m proud, but I cannot be proud of what God has blessed me with. He will forever receive all the glory!
My business goal:
My business goal is to create beautiful and authentic images for my clients to cherish for a lifetime! My promise is to provide an unforgettable experience that is nothing short of an adventure! All time is precious so I always ensure that time spent with me is memorable! I also strongly believe in being authentic and being a voice for those who don’t have the courage to do the same!
My personal life:
I am married to Keenan Wilson (www.keenanwilson.com). We met in 2012, got engaged in 2014, and got married in 2015. We currently have three beautiful children: Kyle (6 years old), Cole (3 years old), and Chloe (1 year old). We love to travel and strive to live day by day taking in each beautiful moment!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is having the ability to create something that someone else loves! There’s just something about creating a piece of tangible artwork that always holds value because it not only identifies a person, but it also holds a memory forever!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson that I had to unlearn was that it’s okay to be human. If we are being honest, most entrepreneurs are strictly business only and can be cold, impersonal, and/or finance-driven. I’ve found that being a business owner does require some ground-rules, but now my biggest rule is loving people. When you love what you do and love the person you are doing it for that’s when the greatest moments happen! Some of my favorite pictures are when real feelings are felt through the camera.
