We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gabriella Sutherland a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Gabriella , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.

Gabriella , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I travel for wedding days and provide photography services to luxury wedding clients who value their photos from their wedding day and want a quality experience with their vendors (with guidance along the way before and during their wedding day).

WHAT SETS ME APART:
My couples often say that I am so easy to work with, I make the process fun and enjoyable, I keep everyone on track and sometimes it feels like I’m not even there. They often say that I was a huge help in making their day run perfectly and that they couldn’t have done it without me, which is an incredible compliment to me on such an important day for them.

I help my brides create their timelines with their most important photos in mind. I help coach them into making a timeline that flows nicely, ensuring there’s enough time for all the photos on their list. On the day of their wedding, I have alarms on my phone, the timeline, and everything ironed out so they don’t have to worry about it. I think fast on my feet when we have a hiccup and fix problems as they come in a timely and efficient manner.
I want my couples to feel comfortable and carefree knowing that they have trusted me with their whole day.

One of the best compliments I receive is when a bride tells me, “I trust your judgement, you’re the professional. Do whatever you want.” These brides let me take the reins and completely trust me with their day and vision, and it is a huge honor to me. It allows me to have full creativity.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

Building my audience on social media started with interacting and providing a genuine presence online (with a focus on Instagram). I have found that genuine interaction, credit to other businesses in tagged images, and features for your favorite vendors are all helpful. Continually posting on a schedule (for example, 3 times a week, every other day or so) is important to boost continuous engagement.

It’s always important to genuinely interact and get involved with others online. Staying up to date on new SEO tips and ways to boost views is also important because the internet and social media is always changing. Hashtags and geo-tagging is also helpful.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing the amount of joy the clients get when delivering their sneak peaks and galleries! When I see that a client has posted images I have taken of them and cannot wait to share it with all of their friends and family, that is a huge compliment to me. Referrals are also such a big reward. When someone says, “I saw so and so’s photos and loved your work so much, I had to reach out!” or, “I just love your work so much I had to see if you were available for my wedding day” is a huge reward as well. I love getting to express my artistic mind and provide beautiful photos and memories for my clients at the same time.
