One goal we set out to achieve was to become a vendor at the State Fair of Texas. We started by joining an organization that offered spaces. Simple enough through our membership we signed up at the appropriate time and paid our fees. But then the real work began and the realization that we needed to change our processes quickly set in. Our business today is very different from when we launched our first collection in 2021. We have transformed an e-commerce brand exclusively selling through our website and on social media into a company that also has partnerships with about 30 brands, retailers, spas, and subscription boxes scattered across the United States. We are so incredibly grateful for the network we have built over the past 2-years and can’t wait to see how far we can take this ride. Read more>>

My biggest weaknesses (there were many) when I first started my business were project management, time management, structure, and organization. I didn’t know how to implement repeatable systems and processes in my business. I was missing client deadlines, frustrated with client communication, and incapable of setting boundaries or expectations….it was a mess. But I also knew I was good at what I did and wanted to continue to do it and do it well, Read more>>

Scaling my business, CamAir Apparel, was the greatest shift I could have ever made. Although CamAir started out as an airbrush clothing business, it has now mainly transitioned into a phone case company. If you would have told me three years ago when I started that 95% of my sales are now coming from phone cases, I would have told you you’re crazy! Read more>>

I am not a huge influencer by any means. With over a thousand followers on Instagram and over three thousand on TikTok, I know those numbers a small compared to many influencers out there. For me though, those numbers are huge, as I have been able to make an impact with those smaller figures. Read more>>

Building a clientele is a slow process and I was definitely nervous when I started out. I figure the market is so oversaturated with Estheticians there is no way I will build a loyal clientele. I stayed committed to my brand and what makes me different. I worked really hard to create a great experience for my clients, and I continue to do so. Read more>>

In the world of high end photography, it can be impossible to “scale up”. Unless I can figure out how to clone myself or pack more days into the week. Boutique photography is a time heavy service. Clients are often shocked that I only book 1 session per day and only 2-3 per week. What so many people don’t realize is that, for every session, your photographer spends about 10 additional hours on your session from booking and planning your session to culling, editing, and delivering your portraits. Scaling a business is made to look pretty simple. You can purchase all of the self-help books on the topic, but in my opinion many provide a very glossy and sugar coated roadmap. Rarely are the blood, sweat and tears discussed as those likely wouldn’t sell the “scaling your business” books, programs or consultations. Read more>>

As I entered college, I knew I wanted to work in the marketing field, but didn’t know much beyond that point. I shadowed various roles at a local marketing firm and explored different sides of the field including video, photo, writing, SEO, and design. SEO caught my experience the most and so I decided to dive in and learn and explore it. Read more>>

As Co-owner of KINK Contemporary, I have had the pleasure of seeing our business grow and evolve over the last four years in ways we never anticipated. When we first opened our doors at 78th Street Studios, we were a small, humble space with floating DYI walls and engaging art on display. We were not always busy but we loved our community and the artists we met along the way. But as time went on, and we relocated to the Waterloo Arts District, we began to attract more and more visitors, and our community grew as well. Read more>>

My journey is not linear, I discovered my passion for makeup about the same time I discovered I was having my first child. A 20-year-old without a clue how to run a business, my dreams and goals were always huge. I know this because I could see on people’s faces when I shared, the reactions were always the same wide eye and slow nodding. Great for my confidence lol. Read more>>

Anyone who is in business knows that scaling up can often be difficult and nerve racking, but rewarding all the while. When I first went into business I was only 17 with an extremely limited amount of experience in my line of work, and absolutely no experience in business, because what 17 year old has business experience? When it came to baking and doing cakes in the cake industry I scaled up by doing a lot of bake sales to get my Product out there more. In December of 2020, our family moved from South Louisiana to Tampa, FL. I was, truthfully, nervous that this new, bustling market would accept an unfamiliar face. However, business grew here almost immediately and in the fall of 2021 I was juggling clients in South Louisiana and locally in the Tampa Bay area. Read more>>

The most important factor I incorporated into my business to become more successful was creating a brand. This was a great way I represented myself, my style in my photographs and connecting with future clients. Living in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, surrounded by small towns…Read more>>

In all honesty, my “scale up” didn’t occur until I hit rock bottom. I was more concerned with saying I was the boss instead of actually being one. Starting my business in January of 2021 was one of those new year new me things lol. I told myself by the time I was thirty that if I had a boss, I’d be it. A year later I was happily running my business in the red. Read more>>
