We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kymberly Stewart. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kymberly below.
Kymberly , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I realized I wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path at the age of 6. I was watching an episode of the tv sitcom Lavern and Shirley, and they were up to their usual shenanigans, and the audience’s laughter was infectious. I don’t know how, but I knew that the actresses, Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams, were being paid to be silly and have fun. It was at that moment that I decided that I wanted to do what ” Lavern” and “Shirley” were doing: entertain people.

Kymberly , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a music artist for children and families and an early childhood music educator from Los Angeles. I teach music classes for infants, toddlers, and preschool aged children at various preschools through out the greater Los Angeles area. When I’m not teaching, I’m working on music, creating content for my YouTube channel and social media, and performing at family events through out the greater Los Angeles area. I released a new album in April of this year titled, Everybody Needs A Little Sunshine. It’s a collection is a doo-wop and 80s R&B inspired songs about unity, self-love, acceptance, kindness, respect and generosity.
I started out as a preschool teacher assistant as a way to pay my way through college, where I was studying to be an elementary teacher. I’d been writing songs since I was a teenager and making up songs came very naturally to me. I’d make up songs for the kids in the classroom and they loved them. It wasn’t until I had my own kids that I realized I could write songs for kids as a profession. The tv was always set to Nick Jr., Playhouse Disney, Noggin, etc. Seeing artists like Laurie Berkner, Yo Gabba Gabba, and such really inspired me to get serious about the music I was creating for children.
I am very proud that I’ve been able to forge a career using my natural talents. I have two albums out, I have two songs that have been published by Hal Leonard, one of the leading publishing companies in the country, and my children’s videos can be watched on SensicalTV. I love creating. I love the joy that it brings to children. It is so rewarding.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist for me is being able to work with children and build relationships with them. I am a very humorous person, and I believe when you’re silly with children it makes them feel safe and they trust When they trust you they are more receptive to learning from you. Being able to give the joy of music to kids is a privilege, and I am very grateful that I get to wake up and do this every day.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
One of the books that has had a huge impact one is, Be, by F. Richard Schnackenberg. Lousie Hay’s audio commentary has also radically changed my life. Schnackenberg basically talks about consciously controlling and directing the power to BE what you choose to BE. This is such a powerful philosophy. I really believe that the way we think is instrumental in how our lives are shaped. I try to practice being positive and focusing on the things that I want in my life. I think this is especially important for artists and creatives because our work flow is not always steady. This path can be discouraging at times so, it’s important to have a positive mindset and to replenish your thought life with positive things.
