We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kocaine Kay a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kocaine , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I did a lot of projects but to me the most meaningful one to me is my first tape I put out on all platforms called Remember Everybody Ain’t Loyal. Even though I have many other projects that I love from start to finish, but Remember Everybody Ain’t Loyal is the one that gather alot of my new followers. The projects behind that one was not on all platforms it was before Its was this easy to get your music heard. Even now I have plenty of projects on all streaming platforms but my first one will forever be the one that made a huge impact on my music and following.
Kocaine , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I go by the stage name of Kocaine Kay. I’m from a small place called Newland in Elizabeth City, North Carolina
I been doing music since a child 10 or 11 I got serious with it at 15 or 16. I use to write at home and in class until one day I finally got into a studio. Everything change hearing my voice and letting people weigh in on there opinions. Made me go a lot more harder knowing I had listeners and a growing fan base to do it for. So now that people were starting to watch and pay attention I made it a hobby that turned in a lifestyle. Music is a part of me I do it cause I love it and now I have a following, and loyal fans and family who look forward to what’s next with me
I always say this you got to discipline yourself and stay humble when you independent it’s just you and your team. No robots meaning you not in the industry so all your push comes from you and your team. Everybody got to stay on each other. Nobody is going push you when you slack down or get lazy. Everytime you get off task it’s like starting over or not progressing. If you don’t get up and put in the work you want see results versus having the computers and the big name labels with people who been connected.
I work hard and practice it’s a routine, to make sure I stand out from everyone who in the same line of business or same craft as you. I stay consistent dropping the music I love and the music I feel my fans love from the feedback they give off if snippets. I don’t do what people think is a trend so I standout because I do me.
I want my fans and anyone who is interested in my brand or whatever I have going on to know I put my blood sweat and tears in it all to make sure I deliver nothing but my best. when you see my videos or see me at a live performances I going it my all at that moment. When you hear my music I’m giving you apart of me, if you are wearing my clothing brand I put thought into how I wanted it to make you look and feel. Everything I’m apart of you getting my best I can give to you.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my following on social media by staying consistent. I’m always giving my followers something new to watch or listen to. I also try to make sure the content I put out there has great quality or at least passable. That mean a lot to your viewers to see you at your best even when they are not watching you through the best devices. Every one is not always watching from what you are watching it from so make sure it looks good in all devices. Same as your music gotta sound good everywhere not just only from your set up.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Of course getting rewarded with money after doing it for free for so long, but besides the money my loyal fans that sing and rap every word to my songs. My fans and family that beat me to my shows where I spill my heart out at and give my all every time.
