We recently connected with Marie-Marcelle Millien and have shared our conversation below.
Marie-Marcelle, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I’ve always been very empathetic and artsy. I started writing poetry when I was 8 or 9 and I kept a journal from then until now. Writing was my way to process a lot of my feelings and how I exercised my imagination.
Toward the end of my twenties I hit an emotional wall where I felt lost and I could see how this was impacting my role as a mother. I then decided to shift my physical health, which led me to want to also address my mental and spiritual health. This started a 12 year journey of discovering and healing myself, which also brought me to a passion to help people with their own journey.
I use my poetry to express difficult feelings and stories hoping people relate and use it as a mirror and/or outlet for their hardships . I am a certified Life Coach and currently studying to be become a counsellor. I want to help people deal with their struggles and create a space where they feel safe and heard.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Marie-Marcelle (Lamisspoetry) Millien, I am a writer and a life coach. Writing has been a passion of mine for most of my life. Especially poetry, it comes natural to me. It allows me to be vulnerable while staying private. It is also a beautiful way to connect with people.
Life coaching/counselling is an extension of my ability to listen with empathy and curiosity. I wanted to learn concrete ways to help myself and anyone who reaches out to me for advice or guidance.
My biggest dream for as long as I can remember was publishing my first book. I have been working on it for the past 5 years.
In my book I share my healing journey. I open up about the numerous tools and services I utilized to heal my physical, mental and spiritual health.
This also fuelled my desire to help people on a deeper level. I started with investing in a Life Coaching certificate, and I am currently studying to become a counsellor.
I use my art to connect and heal, I also do this on a more practical level with my coaching certificate.
My empathy and curiosity leads me
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The first lesson I had to unlearn was to share myself to the world without the obligation to be perfect.
Per example, it was extremely difficult for me share my poetry online at first. I was worried about typos, grammar, being misunderstood, or being judged.
I eventually realized that it was impossible to be human and perfect at the same time. This is how we connect with world. We all have this in common, we are all imperfect. So, now, I just share my art and my thoughts as a life coach, this is how I will find my people.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal as a writer is healing myself and seeing myself in words. It is my way to process and flesh out everything I feel and sometimes don’t understand.
My second goal is connection with others and publish multiple books.
When it comes to my Life Coach and counselling business, I want to assist and help people in their healing journey. I used many resources throughout the years, from coaching, to therapy, to hypnosis and more. I want to be on a wellness team and be there for people who may need guidance and a loving/caring ear.
