We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nic Violets a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nic, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
For years, I found myself stuck in a stagnant sales job that offered no opportunity for growth. The company went public, yet our wages were reduced, leaving me feeling undervalued. Although I managed to maintain a comfortable lifestyle with decent benefits, I couldn’t shake the nagging dissatisfaction that came with each day spent merely earning a paycheck instead of pursuing my passions.
Throughout this time, I dabbled in freelance design and explored various side hustles, but they never quite provided a stable income. Then, one fateful day, I crossed paths with someone who would dramatically alter the course of my career. All I knew about this individual was their involvement in the creative industry, yet they extended an invitation to join their team.
Recognizing this as the chance I had been waiting for, I seized the opportunity without hesitation. As a result, my world was soon flooded with design work that ignited my passions. The hobbies I had once reserved for my free time now became the central focus of my life. Today, I am fully immersed in a creative career that allows me to explore music, design, photography, art direction, and so much more.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My entry into the creative realm was fueled by a yearning for self-expression, and that desire, coupled with a strong spirit of independence, propels me forward. The artist’s journey is fraught with challenges, and I find myself confronting new hurdles on a daily basis. Yet, it is this very aspect that makes the artistic lifestyle so enticing to me. Without pushing ourselves to overcome obstacles, we risk becoming stagnant, and I have no intention of allowing complacency to take hold. Instead, I aim to inspire others through my work and create a lasting impact.
Although music has always been my primary means of expression, I embrace the notion of “artist” as a fluid and ever-evolving descriptor. My art serves as a reflection of my inner emotions and experiences, continually maturing and transforming as I grow.
I’m extremely proud of my resilience in this space, and I attribute my success to the constant pressure I’ve tried to apply since day one.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In the early days of my creative endeavors, which began during middle school, I often faced ridicule and criticism. I knew my art was still in its infancy, but I was eager to learn and grow. Despite negative reactions to the vulnerability of exposing my work to the world, I remained steady in my pursuit, never wavering in my determination.
Over time, those who once belittled me have become supporters, even attending my shows. I have no bad blood towards anyone, as I believe we were all young and impressionable at that time. It would have been unrealistic to expect a 14-year-old to possess the level of self-awareness to understand the confidence and introspection necessary to create music. Hell – even some adults struggle to cultivate that understanding.
As I continue on my artistic journey, I wish nothing but the best for everyone I encounter, acknowledging that we all evolve and grow as we navigate through life.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My main goal is to inspire as many people as I can. I once received a message from a supporter which described how my work saved their life. It honestly brought tears to my eyes to see my words heal. To know that I was able to connect with someone emotionally, who I had never met, makes the journey more than worth it.
It’s almost like it’s necessary that I pursue this.
