We recently connected with DeRon Drummond and have shared our conversation below.
DeRon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
The biggest risk that I have ever taken was when I made the decision to move the business from Akron, OH to Atlanta, GA. It meant that all the hard work that had been done to create the enormous client list we had in Ohio would have to be done all over again in a new city. We went from having over a thousand clients and great, consistent revenue to having absolutely nothing but the dream of taking “Black Hollywood” by storm. So far the risk has been paying off tremendously

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am 1/4 of LeaRoc Films and Media. We are a one-stop media company that specializes in cinematography, photography, graphic design and audio production. This venture started out of our own need for the services. In our early years of making music, we found out that we needed to pay professionals for all of these services to be taken serious. We started looking for companies that could provide them and found that the costs were too steep. It drove us to acquire the equipment needed to do everything ourselves. After lots of trials, errors and studying, we became experts in all of these fields. At that point we decided to make it a permanent business venture that we offer to everyone. Our goal is to provide everyone with affordable, yet professional content
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to lose the fear of failure. Taking the major risk of moving the business to Atlanta was scary. Completely restarting over always presents the potential for disaster. I had to change the way I looked at it. The potential reward for when the move becomes successful was so great that it made the risk worth it. You learn that everything great thing you go after in life involves big risks. If you shy away from them, you’ll never reach your full potential

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Everything about our company was built from a pivot. We made the decision to go from recording artists to a permanent media team
