We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Miesha Keaton- Stoglin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Miesha , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission the drives your brand?
Beauty By Mink’s Cosmetics is more than a cosmic line, it’s a movement to enhance the self esteem and self worth of women across the globe. Women, young and old have experienced and endured an extreme amount of trauma, abuse, pain and personal heartache of some sort. Aside from emotional healing, It is a fact that if a woman looks good, she feels even better! Beauty By Mink’s Cosmetics is a growing beauty line that provides lip gloss, liquid lipstick, eyeshadow, eyelashes, mascara, lip liners, body butters and more! Our brand appeals to every woman. The everyday woman as well as the woman who wants a little extra “drama” with her makeup look can definitely benefit from our beauty line. Our cosmetics are exceptional and we stand behind every single one of our products as one of the absolute BEST on the market! We provide luxury cosmetics at a very reasonable and affordable price. We love all things beauty and luxury so we merged the two to provide high quality products.
The CEO, Miesha Keaton Stoglin, is no stranger to the beauty industry. Miesha started her career as a hairstylist in 1999 and has almost 25 years experience with hair, makeup, and things relating to the the beauty industry. “I knew there was something more for me to do; I knew my purpose was greater than only “doing hair” so I decided to take my experience to another level.” Miesha started the beauty line offering mink eyelashes. From there, it expanded to hand crafted lip gloss. A year after that, the cosmetic line expanded again offering lipstick, eyeshadow, mascara, lip liners, makeup brushes, makeup bags, and more! The amazing thing is, the line is still growing! The ultimate goal is to provide a full line of luxury cosmetics making it a one stop shop for all cosmetic and beauty needs.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
“When I first started creating lipgloss, I was so excited! I bought all of the products that I thought I needed and went to work! Lol, I thought it was so easy and boy was I wrong! I made a batch of lipgloss and was under the impression that I did everything right. I created different color lip gloss and began filling my empty tubes (with no label or logo, might I add). I quickly realized that I had measurements all wrong, too much of this and not enough of that. I filled about 100 tubes and the formulas were ALL WRONG! I felt horrible because not only could I NOT sell what I anticipated on selling, I also lost and felt like I wasted money… and as a brand new business owner that’s a problem. I was down and thought that I may as well quit because I messed up so badly and felt defeated. I waited a few days, ordered more supplies and went back into “the lab” to do it all over again! I messed it up again BUT not as bad as the first time. I knew then that it was a sign for me to keep going. Eventually I was able to perfect my formulas and make the perfect lipgloss. I had a dream and for a short moment I forgot that amazing things don’t always come easy. Greatness takes patience and work and I was more than willing to do what it would take to make my dreams a reality. Being a entrepreneur has it’s challenges, it’s not easy. I didn’t always get sales and there were times that I went several days, even weeks in between sales. However, my why is what keeps me going! My why is knowing that something I provide has the potential and ability to make a woman feel a little better about her self.”
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I have found that the most effective strategy to build a consistent consumer base is social media. The tool that I’ve used with social media is being present and posting often. People want to see you! People want to know that you are committed to them as a consumer as well as your brand. I also have learned that by providing amazing high quality products, trust is being built from the consumer end. More than likely if the customer trust you/the brand, they will return.
