We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hattie Noworatzky. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hattie below.
Hattie, appreciate you joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
It all began as a fun hobby for myself. As a mother of two small kids I was looking for a creative outlet and discovered jewelry design. I took classes and was instantly in love. As I wore my pieces around my friends took notice and immediately insisted I create pieces for them as well. With the encouragement of this supportive group, they quickly convinced me to turn it into a business. They all came from different backgrounds and had something unique to contribute as I started this new adventure. My husband shared his knowledge of entrepreneurship with me and gave his full support and guidance as my business grew. To make this dream really grow, I realized I had to get my name out there. I took all the pieces I had made to a local boutique to see what the owner thought and she bought everything! This gave me the confidence I needed to take the next steps. I needed a website and help keeping up with my rapidly growing business. One of my besties, who happens to be a former NASA scientist and tech guru, was easily talked into becoming my partner and taking on technology side of things. We loved the mission to create on trend jewelry while giving back to our community. We have been working and laughing together every day since.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Creating unique jewelry began as a project, became a hobby, and turned into a vision to share my love of colors and textures with the world. I have found even the smallest accessory can bring confidence and that extra something to any ensemble. My hope is to create classic beauty, with designs that are now, and to make people feel truly beautiful. Your jewelry should always lift you up, and never weigh you down. My business partner and I love giving back to our community through partnerships with local non-profits and schools.
We wanted to create more than jewelry, so we set out to build a brand that inspires women to live life to the fullest.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Like many businesses in the pandemic, we found ourselves in a place where we had to pivot or close down. Priorities had changed and we quickly realized people didn’t need jewelry to wear around their homes when they weren’t going anywhere.
We shifted our jewelry company to create self care kits for adults who were feeling the stress and anxiety of all the unknowns and educational activity kits for children who had been suddenly pulled from school. We used our combined former teacher and microbiology knowledge to create these kits and deliver them safely. We also began a community project we called “the pandemic pick me up “ which had free printables for people to download and share with neighbors and friends to spread joy.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My business partner and I met several years ago through mutual friends. We worked out the local YMCA together and served on a local nonprofit board where we became fast friends. We have very different personalities that bring a great mix of things to the table. Our office is always full of laughter and the occasional dance break.
