We recently connected with Shawna Mills and have shared our conversation below.
Shawna, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission is to create a beautiful yet soulful haven for women that overcame domestic violence and what way to do that through glam. All women love a good lipstick collection
Shawna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I always wanted my own business as I became a military wife and a stay a home mom it push me further into having my own career and business after so many years working for someone else it was time.. what push me even more was when my daughter wanted to do a pageant and wanted me to run with her.. I won the tile of Brand Ambassador Arizona International in 2019 as domestic violence was my platform, it made me push even harder to achieve a goal as a Survivor of domestic violence and entrepreneurship to show women that anything is possible.. Domestic violence is my passion as well as my business I have met many women in many states and was surprised how many survivors and victims I reached through beauty and lipgloss, its crazy because it’s easy to talk to women about beauty products but hard to talk about what we’ve been through. It gave me a way to open up other doors and meet People around the world and that is my goal to bring more awareness for domestic violence through beauty I also host different event for the month of Oct for domestic violence awareness and I continue to elevate to bring more awareness.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
It’s funny because I was selling paparazzi jewelry to save to start my business an believe it or not I only started with 5 bucks, yes you heard me 5 dollars, being a military wife and while your husband is deployed you never want to take the money his risking his life for our family to make sure we are stable.. so I decided to sell jewelry do preorders of my products I didn’t have funding or a loan I fund my business on my own it was challenging but well worth it and after 3 years here we are still successful but work hard to get here nothing was handed to me I did it on my own.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I learn that nothing is easy nothing happens over night patience is very important and it’s ok to be able you so you can be successful for you.. I also learn that it’s totally ok not to be ok all the time.. celebrate every journey you go through celebration every milestone because if you don’t find the joy in the journey you will get tired and miss out on the real moments of you journey
