We were lucky to catch up with Dr. Tongie recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Tongie, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?

As I sit here overlooking the Caribbean and Atlantic Oceans…with Gladys Knight exclaiming how she “heard what she heard through the grapevine, (e.g., no doubt someone meddling in her business causing her distress…hahahahah) and how she’s indeed questing her disposition…my Son “Chris”…that same Son that questioned how I could ever have the audacity to NEVER TAKE RISKS…I can’t help but reflect on how my taking RISKS…OVER AND OVER AND OVER have manifested some of the most magnificent and disheartening experiences I’ve ever known. See, it’s in the RISKS that you live. You don’t live when everything is going good…noooo-true living…the kind that keeps you up at night…the ones that cause you to question your very existence…you know-the ones that remind you that you have shortcomings-haunting mistakes-those…that’s the True Measure of a Man. For it’s not what you have done, but what you have come through, that a man is remembered for. So, buckle up, and please allow me to share with you one of the hundreds of the thousands that I finally took the RISK OF A LIFETIME AND SCORED THE ABUNDANCE OF FREEDOM, LIBERTY AND KINGDOM LIFESTYLE.

In April, 2021, my life was in the “ebb and flow” in which I had been so accustomed. Who knew that one year prior I was living from hotel to hotel-all while dedicating my life to the greatest RISK ever. With this one, my mind/will/emotions-I had to take time to research, read daily and adopt as Truth, every Word outlined by God. A bona-fide tried and trusted set of Principles that have been in existence for well over 500,000+ years (or longer-no one truly knows), changed the course of my life. The book that captivated my world and caused life to return to a lifeless existence was Matthew 6; 33. How I wasted time! Worrying about circumstances, situations, people and problems that were never designed for me. What resources and needless and careless stewarding by me. I wreaked havoc and caused unnecessary stress for my Family. How many of you are trying to “figure out life’s course” when everything has already been charted? But nothing-absolutely nothing happens without faith, hope, trust, and belief. See, I am thoroughly convinced that my deciding to “repent”-change my mind (change of mindset), caused my entire life, bloodline, generation to shift. Furthermore, because I was able to Risk it All-One Last Time-by being willing to unlearn unproductive habits, relinquish old traditions that no longer served a purpose and habits that went away like the backing of money by the gold standard; I intentionally caused a declaration to proceed from my mouth-a thought to be entered into my heart-beckoning me that I am NOT JUST THE SUM TOTAL OF MY PAST. I am POWERFUL, OF A WARRIOR SPIRIT, COURAGEOUS, KIND, LOVING, INTELLIGENT AND PEACEFUL..I AM A CHILD OF GOD.

There is a place in your life that is only reserved for your Creator. It is a place that holds every dream you’ve ever dreamed. A place where your future-past-present all operate within a symbiotic realm. This place is where your happiness lies. But would you believe that over 50% of the human population (waaaay over) will never experience this sacred place? Not because they don’t believe-no…believing is not an issue here. Neither is it because they do not desire to live a carefree, abundant, liberty-type lifestyle. A place where there is no worry-nor doubt…a place where God will truly meet you. No-they’ve been duped to believe that you must be “good enough” “pure enough” think positive enough” to ascertain that which has already been placed in your “Will” and “Mind”. But the key here-you hold the power to create, achieve, live life out loud-
-but it’s up to you. What are you willing to Risk to obtain a better opportunity to thrive-soar-and be who you were meant to be?

You asked how it turned out-me taking the Risk of a Life Time? Leaving everything that was familiar to my Family and I, and finally deciding to Be who I was born to be…well-let’s just say that today, Monday thru Friday I host my radio show The Dr. Tongie Show International, in Saint Lucia (Caribbeans). And on Friday-that same show is broadcast on Hot 7 TV (throughout the country). Oh, did I mention, I get to consult individuals who are desiring to live the life that they know they were created to do?! And not to mention that I have published my first book-Journaling with Dr. Tongie: Deciding to Move Forward, I now have launched a publishing company, KaddKena Publishing, and have published a newly minted “Dreamer”. And this is just a fraction of what I get to do every single day of my life. Not to mention the media and publishing company we just launched for our show’s original content.

My mindset today-Live every single day in 60 second doses…you’ll begin to see wonders unimaginable.

Dr. Tongie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

There were times in my life when I was asked “who are you”? I would answer-“oh, I’m a xxxxxx”. Feeling proud of having attained some notoriety and a bit of pride when answering, “I’m a non-practicing medical doctor…experiencing life in the aspect of the business side of medicine, in lieu of actual serving as a practitioner”. I used to believe being identified by your title, your job, your status was the evident needed to say “I am somehow better equipped to handle life than you” because societal markers dictate this unspoken myth. But this is not entirely the Truth. I now know that I am more than a serial-prenuer (entrepreneur with more than 3 active registered businesses) operating a publishing company, KaddKena Publishing, host of a radio/podcast/television show-Dr. Tongie Show International, airing weekly in Saint Lucia, Caribbeans, a published author-Journaling with Dr. Tongie: Deciding to Move Forward, a Behavioral Consultant, and a Lifestyle Coach-just to name a few of the modalities.

Presently, I travel and live internationally. Teaching Kingdom Principles throughout the Caribbeans and the U.S. affords me so many opportunities to meet some very interesting, talented and disciplined individuals. I have worked tirelessly to learn how to listen with the uncanny ability to hear what is not being spoken by my perspective Client(s). Having this gift, coupled with sound-reasonable judgment and an intentional need to establish an environment of Honesty-Openness-Sincerity as the initial precursor, has garnered me a successful and proven track record of executing transformational change. I believe that it is vitally important for persons serving as a Life Coach, Motivational/Inspirational Teacher, Counselor or Therapist to exhibit character constructs of trust, humility, professionalism and transparency. For this is the only true example of being the Change you desire to see.

Every Client/Customer that I am privileged to assist in rediscovering (or discovering) who they were created to be is met with my belief that they are already Complete, Whole, Restored and Operate with the Mindset of Abundant Achievements. I like to believe that the end has already been established and it is perfectly in harmony with the Plans, Purposes and Lifestyle of anyone who dares to change their mindset and become the work necessary to do the work to BE.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Would you believe that by age 17 I had my first child? My second one by 19 and my third by 21? Would you believe that I have suffered at the hands of those who say they loved me-silently for years-all while believing the hate filled lies of my past mistakes would some how dictate my destiny. Or my being in a silent struggle with depression and anxiety caused me to fervently commit to not becoming who I was purposed to be. It was only three years ago that I finally shared with my Mother that I was indeed “unhoused” in 2015. I told her of how I journaled about my 120 days in the ‘wilderness’. She couldn’t believe that me, one who holds a Bachelors in Psychology-with a minor in Biology…a medical degree…several businesses and a zest for life-had allowed the economic downturn to catch me without any means to provide for my Family or business. She wept when I told her how there were times when I discounted my value and worth and contemplated doing the unimaginable. When she finally conceptualized me-her first born-living in a city which ranks number one for homelessness in America-staying the course with a resolve to “finish what I started”; she soon understood that therein lies a belief in a Being that lives beyond what I can see. One that governs my lifestyle and creates endless opportunities for me to live from the Inside Out.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

I remember this story as if it happened yesterday. It was November, 1994. I was 24 years old-a Mother of three all under the age of 10 with a marriage that was so badly marred that unbeknownst to me, an imminent divorce hung in the balance. I had just gotten some of the worst news of my life. But I had a dream. One that afforded me the chance of owning and operating my own business. But being from small town, Mississippi, little black girls dared not hold a secret so unheard of… But I knew-deep inside-that I could indeed live a dream. After going to the bank with a half-baked business plan, and being laughed to scorn and denied by the branch manager of XQU Bank and Savings, any reality I had was completely destroyed. That was until I mustered up the courage to tell my co-worker of a dream that kept disturbing my sleep. A dream that demonstrated how my playing my self small would not serve anyone-especially myself. She not only listened with such compassion and hope, but she forced me to never take NO as a final answer. Her renewed sense of purpose was evident that very day. For it was her gifting me $5,000.00 as the initial investment in my business that changed my life and increased my faith in humanity!
