We were lucky to catch up with KingPin Da’ Composer recently and have shared our conversation below.
KingPin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
One thing I credit my parents on is letting me express myself freely with music. I’ve been evolved in music at some capacity since I was 5 years old, My mom and grandmother especially made sure I stayed the course and gave 100% to the craft.

KingPin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m KingPin Da’ Composer, musician/producer/event planner. My musical journey started at five years old as a drummer for my grandmother’s church. During that time, my time as a drummer continued on through middle and high school participating in marching band, to my adult years playing for various musical group throughout the city. I say around 2008, my passion for music production grew and I started taking music production serious. From 2008 to 2010, I put in endless hours to enhance my skills in music production. In 2010, I started producing music on a more professional level and began working with a lot of indie talent here in Memphis. Around 2017, I started a beat battle league (#LetsGetLOUD) where a numerous amount of producers have displayed their production skills and networked with other producers and artists. That same year I formed a production team (Steaksawse Produtions) comprised of Sunny Dizzle and LJ1S.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Networking!!!! Early in my career I was so engulfed with perfecting my craft, I neglected the importance of building relationships earlier on. If I could change anything, I would’ve definitely started networking more in the beginning stages of my career.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding thing for me is being independent. There’s a level of creative freedom that comes with it. I can work with who I want to work with, and make the type of music I want to make without any hassles. I’m in a very rewarding position.
