Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Neamh Abdullah. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Neamh, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry

In the baking industry, something is trending almost every week, especially with social media around. Recently I have been seeing tons of new cake designs that have been trending such as the fun cake shapes being hearts along with the new “selfie” cake which is a mirror on top of the cake for a fun little selfie. There are all these different fun shapes and molds for mini cakes that correlate with whatever season or holiday is coming up. I love the mini cake trend, I find it so fun to gift someone a cute mini cake for whatever occasion needs to be celebrated.

Neamh, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My name is Neamh Abdullah and I run a home-baking business located in Dearborn, Michigan. Ever since I was younger, I’ve always enjoyed baking and the decorating process that makes everything unique and aesthetically pleasing. I am very lucky to be surrounded by the best people in my life, especially my mother, who has supported me throughout my childhood and always instilled in my head to never give up on anything I set my mind to. I realized I wanted to start my own business and make something for myself after getting married in 2017 and moving to Michigan from Illinois. My husband has been by my side during this whole process and helped me navigate exactly what I wanted to start and that’s when I went back to baking. To expand my repertoire of sweets I could make, I began making desserts for my friends and family for their events. Confections by Neamh was founded in December 2019. I started my business and that’s also when the pandemic started, which prompted me to start developing my web presence to reach more people. I took a year off after having my daughter in 2021, but now that I’m back, business is booming. I’ve been in this industry for almost 4 years and have enjoyed every single moment of it. I’m growing my business steadily, bringing in both new and returning clients, and I can’t wait to see what the future brings!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?

The best source of new clients for me would have to be taking advantage of social media and learning how to grow my online presence, especially with people in your area. Taking advantage of something such as TikTok and Instagram Reels is a huge thing that could help your video and page blow up overnight. I have been very lucky to have some of Michigan’s biggest foodies come by and enjoy the treats I’ve made and share them on their platform.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

Staying true to yourself and your beliefs is something I will forever stand by in life along with my business. I will never tell or try to sell my client something just for the satisfaction of payment. I always try and get my clients every wish they can get when it comes to the design and flavor of whatever kind of sweets they want from me.
